I looked on my chain and the chain manufacturer is RK. I know that I need to get a master link for an RK chain and know that it needs to be a 525 size chain. Does anything else matter as far as selecting the right master link?

I know that I can chose between a clip and rivet style but what I need to know is as long as I get a master link made by RK for a 525 chain I should be good correct?

Ok I know that master links ARE chain specific so for those of you saying that any master link will work, they wont.

I said nothing about my chain being stretched. I have 500 miles on this chain, it isn't stretched and that answer had nothing to do with the question I asked.

I recently bought a master link for a 525 chain. The parts person asked if I had an O-ring chain, nothing about who made the chain. Master links of the same size are interchangeable but must be matched to the type of chain, (O-ring or not) because O-rings chains are marginally wider than non O-ring chains.

Yes a 530 master link could be used, but not recommended. Also as noted in another answer, install the clip on the inside of the sprocket with the closed end of clip pointing in the same direction as the travel of the chain.

On chains the first number designates the pitch or distance between the teeth and the last 1 or 2 numbers designates the width. In your case, you could use a 530 master link since it will be just a bit wider but you cannot use a 50 or 520 master link.

Why can't you use your current master link? You don't NEED a master link from RK. Just get a 525 master link and your set.

Be aware that " half-links " are also available. If you are using the " clip " style master link, remember to install the closed end of the clip facing forward, in the normal direction of travel.

you dont want a master link, buy the small press from a bike shop and dont use a master link, the small press is cheap and enables you to pull out and install links

you need a new chain, if it is that slack it is worn out throw it way and buy a new one.
If you don't you risk wearing out the sprockets too..
False ecconomy
