See, it is a corporation thing. The corporations can't just keep selling the stuff in traditional colors, we would all eventually stop buying Xmas decorations, because we have enough, and only buy because something has broken, or worn out.
So, they keep changing the materials and colors, so we think that to be stylish, we have to keep changing the colors, too.
The fashion industry does that, a new style every year. Being old, I can't tell you how many times certain styles have come back into favor, over and over in my lifespan. Kilts with a big safety pin? 3 times. And the ideas is the same, keep changing the styles, so we keep buying, we buy far more clothes to keep in style, than we do because the clothes have outworn their usefulness because they are worn out. We do this with cars, we remodel our houses when the decor is still useful.
Can't blame corporate America for cashing in on our sense of style. We only notice at Christmas, because it is Christmas.
PS, why did you give Corporate America the ideas of carving potatoes at Halloween, or an Easter Squirrel? Now we will be doing that next year! LOL! Let's see, it is Peter Cottontail, so the squirrel should be Bradly Buckteeth? And we will be besieged with commercials from Idaho, promoting carving potatoes! And it will be your fault! You created the market!

No, its wasn't really tradition. The green tree's are tradition from Germany, but were long after the birth of christ. It's not about the colours which make tradition, it's the fact that we're still decorarting our houses. Colours don't matter so long as it looks good. Tradition isn't limited to one idea. You can make your own traditions. I think that the whole idea of decorating for christmas with just a few colours is a bit boring (no offence) really. The colours look nice, and everyone can add their own touch. Just say that we couldn't (by law) decorate our houses in any other colours, only red and green. Then everyone's house would look the same. I think that the colours are good. Anyway your decision.
=D

Despite what people are saying here a tradition is something your parents or grandparents used or did and not just something you made up this year.
At first the reds and greens were highlighted by silvers and golds which started to make it rather Las Vegas..(ala the aluminum Christmas tree which my folks did buy!) and then it went into all sorts of weird colors and we are just supposed to accept. Now blue is a traditonal color for the season of Advent and during Hannukah they use this color for the Jewish traditions.
The rest of the colors should take a back seat at this time of year.. fall is oranges and browns.. and winter can be white and blue.. but Christmas is red and green, darn it!

Remember everyone has their own family traditions. Also Christmas isn't about decorating in what you believe to be the traditional red and green but about the birth of our Savior. Also I like the reds and greens for my own decorations but I think the other colors and so forth are pretty as well. Everyone has their own tastes and opinions that is why there are a variety of things out there. Just like some people eat a ham versus a turkey for their holiday dinners. Merry Christmas to you!!!!!

No one tried changing the birth of Christ, the order of the nativity scene, or the Santa idea. So whats the big deal with the color scheme? Many people choose to decorate with colors that go along with their home scheme. I personally have Gold and Burgundy on my tree! It goes well with the Burgundy/apples in my home.
What do the colors matter for?
Snow is still white, for that white wonderland you dream of.
Santa is still jolly with the white beard and red suit.
Their are still 9 Reindeer and a sleigh.
It's still a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.
NO ONE TRIED TO CHANGE THE TRADITION. B/C THIS IS WHAT CHRISTMAS IS ABOUT. Not what color ornament is on their tree or what topper they choose, or what their wreath and mistletoe looks like!

honestly, i do no longer do a fabulous variety of adorning.I only positioned up a tree and decorat it with countless colourful embellishes and positioned a wreath on my door and positioned out porcelain miniature Christmas themed statues and homes with lights furnishings and water fountains.previous that, i do no longer probably go lots added.I do like purple and eco-friendly yet additionally positioned blue, pink, gold, or maybe yellow into my tree.
