well see it all depends how old you are heres how the chart goes (my moms a doctor):

Infants: in breaks anywhere from 8-9 hrs
Kids (5-12): 8-9 hrs (continous)
Young adults (13-16): 9-10
Adults (18-60): if you dont have a sleep condition 6-8
Seniors(60+): 10-12 continous or in breaks

iam getting around 13 hrs iam 14 right now. the more you sleep the better until you get to the point where it starts interfering with your schedule. As studys have shown the more you sleep the taller you grow (no gravity is acting upon your height because you are lying down)

You should try to get at least 8 hours sleep a night. People getting less than that are not as alert or accurate when doing tasks and they are at a higher risk of having a heart attack also.
