Sure, I used to work in a law office, so I,ve seen first hand what happens when your this far behind in child support, but it,s never 100%, it will depend what state you reside in, if its california, I,m gonna say, yes he will go to jail, but other states are a bit more laxed. Our system for deadbeat parents is a stystem that still isnt a working one, I mean, the money it will cost to lock him up will far out exceed what he owes in child support. I,ve seen some men welcome jail, free room and board, a hot meal, t,v, medical care, etc. So me personally, dont feel that jail is the answer.

If he has been served court papers and shows up then he will need to have some money with him or have quick access to some. If he goes to jail, will depend on the judge! Some judges do not play around to dead beat parents but it all depends on how he conducts himself and what kind of mood the judge is in. If the state is suggesting he be thrown in jail than there is a good chance he will be. They work close together and the state will know what kind of judge is that he or she is working with. I was in court one time with my ex and the judge had him go to jail and be required to post pictures of our kids in his cell to remember why he was serving time.

that person doesn't know anything. Some guys have to pay more than a thousand a month. 20 grand could be 18 months behind (which is about how long it goes before they get involved). You aren't going to get money if he's in jail, Honey! I went to court for this very thing, and they just made a new payment plan with me (which I did start paying).

Yes he will go to jail. It's more like 100% he will go to jail, unless you offer to give him a chance to pay half or to find a job. I know this from experience (in WI). The judge asked my attorney what I would like and I gave my ex the chance to find a job, 3 months later he was working. $20,000.00 is a hell of a lot more then what he owed me! Good luck.

Oh Yeah......he might even have his driver's license taken away. They don't screw around with unpaid child support anymore. No matter whether it is a man or a woman. They will probably confiscate any future income tax returns also, along with a percentage of future earnings. If he doesn't show up, he will most likely have a warrant put out for him and when he shows his face, BLAM....he'll have his butt in court and probably jail.

No. Probably no chance of him going to jail. He will make some kind of pathetic deal with the lawyer to pay a minimal payment of like $10 a month on the arrears and they will accept it and he will go home.
Keep this in mind, the judge hears thousands of child support cases every year and he gets sick of it. He just wants to cycle you thru the courts like the hundreds of other cases and get on with his job as easy as possible.
I probably sound cold, but it happened to me. There were times when my kids and I couldnt afford groceries and the judge accepted a $20 a month payment on an arrears of thousands of dollars. My ex smirked when he walked out of the courthouse. He never even payed the $20 and actually was pulled over for a traffic citation when they hauled him to jail on a warrant for non payment of child support and they accepted another deal and let him go the same day. He never payed that one either.
His adult daughter bragged on how she took our daughter to the doctor because she was sick. She didnt tell anyone she had the bill sent to me and the pharmacy in our small town billed me for the cough medicine she picked up. She is just trying to make herself look good. It was pathetic.
To make matters worse, I am a nurse and the judge figured I could support our kids, so there was no need to keep chasing him for support he would never pay. It was just clogging the already over burdened system. We never got anything.
Sorry

I hope that the dead beat father goes to jail and gets the shower sceen. I can't stand fathers that aren't responsible and want nothing to do with their kids. It wasn't the kids decision to be in this world. Oh and tell that losser he is going to pay back pay intrest!

Florida is hard on them. They expect the fathers to pay they take away drivers license so they cant drive. They attach check for it and then they throw in jail so obviously he has been warned more than once.He has had his chance so now he needs to get butt in gear.

Let's hope so. Any "man" that gets that far behind on child support should be locked up--then atleast the loser has a reason for not paying.
