This is the bonding together of two base pairs in different strands of double-stranded DNA or RNA. In particular, guanine bonds to cytidine and adenine bonds to thymine in DNA. Uracil replaces thymine in RNA, which has no thymine. The bonding is by hydrogen bonding of N-H to C=O or to N. Each pair forms either two or three such bonds as the base pairs fit snugly together.
