Many tests serve as weeding grounds or gateways to more prestigious positions, credentials, or other benefits. Successfully navigating these hurdles (scoring well on pivotal exams) can mean the difference between promotion and no promotion, entry into college/graduate school or rejection, or receiving a license/credential or not receiving said license. Some important exams (in the USA) include: the SAT/ACT, the GRE, the MCAT, the LSAT, medical boards, the Bar, etc.

I'm not sure. I think maybe by teaching you how to carefully read and analyze. Then go through all your choices and choose the best one. This can be helpful when you have to sign contracts I guess. Otherwise, it's pointless.
