Hi there, I'm trying to find out the year of manufacture of my kx 250 motocross bike (so no logbook etc obviously)
it has a silver frame and 48mm usd forks, the only number I can find is stamped onto the engine and is kx250ke018623... any help would be appreciated

many thanks for the replies. the bike was bought through an auction house as stolen/recovered so the vin no has been removed, looking sround on the internet its visually similar to the 99-02 range of machines... more investigation required I reckon

Michael,,it's CLOSE but Not necessarily Perfect to go according to engine number

The Last "ke" engine numbers were in '99

USUALLY the engine is serial numbered same as Frame,or very close.
Most of the time it's the same.

The actual Serial Number part of engine or frame number is the Last 5 characters.

18623 in your case.

That means your engine was the 18,623th ENGINE Produced.

The Bike's VIN number would Typically carry Same Number

If we use that same number in the VIN Number/Frame Number...
Then it comes out in the Range of 1996Models

1998 began at #27,001
1997 began at #20,001
1996 began at #14,001

Your number is well-enough "centered " in 1996 Range between 14,000 to 20,000....
Fairly Safe GUESS that it's a 1996 KX250

You should be able to find VIN "frame number" located here

That can be hard to see,but thats best way to be certain

The absolutely free reverse vin check sites generally provide fake information. To get real information, money will have to be paid. The free searches provide fake information so they can get your email address to send spam.

Stay away from shady reverse vin check sites, most likely you won't get any information after you make the payment. Not to mention you won't get a report and you won't get an answer if you try to call for a refund. Stick with a reputable reverse vin check site like http://www.reversevincheck.net that has been around since 1995.
