Here's my premise: They're either wrong in their thinking if they are demonstrative and seem to possess a plan of any sort -- too Hollywood, too corporate, the wrong religion, the wrong past, the wrong special interests back them, they back the wrong politicians currently in office -- or they are hollow placeholder men who would keep the seat warm in the Oval Office for their respective party without contributing anything of value to our esteem in the world or our national leadership.
Do many of you agree? (And please, don't throw "that's why I'm a Libertarian" at me. Libertarians are, by definition, people who lose elections in America, no more no less, and they can't get past that block.)

"Well why don't you run?" is a great one-line comeback, I guess. But why is it that we keep getting other than the best and brightest to run for top office? It's too committee-made, too let's pick a low common denominator in electability. This is really a bipartisan bash. The process has somehow put us in a hurt for decent leadership. And why is that? Still wondering here, as many of you are, also.

Every aspect of life in America has become "harrah for me & the hell with you". From CEOs wanting more than they ever would need(20 million a yr, plus stock options of 20 million) & this from a company that is losing money, to the everyday person that says " I shouldn't have to help anyone with anything". you see it every day right here in this forum. In all the debates have you heard one candidate say they will do what the people want? I hear them say what they would do. What they would do does not translate into what the people want or expect. Power & greed! Politics have degenerated into a fight for these two conditions. Congress has become a self-serving institution. They have the best socialized health program in the world while condeming other for promoting socialized healthcare for the masses. They support corporate America with very generous tax breaks & outright money giveaways like no-bid government contracts. Generous pay raises on a regular basis while at the same time doing absolutely nothing in congress. The sad thing about this is we keep voting the same people back into office. Just as we do the presidents. Is it a sense of fear that a new politician MIGHT be worse than the last. I know that is my fear. Democrat or republican!!!! I guess we get what we deserve, we voted them into office.

Take a normal person drinking their coffee at 7:30 am and watching the news before they go to work for the day. If they agree with what their politician is doing or saying they may nod their head and thats about it. Nothing more is required. They elected the guy and they are getting what they want. There is no reason to go out and actively support the issue because they already got their way.
Same guy sees his politicians doing exactly the opposite of what he wants. There is definitely a reason to say something about it, to write in protest to buy a bumper sticker that says his politician is a jerk because he is not getting his way at all.
On every issue there are 2 or more sides. Chances are that any solution or statement will tick off someone. If a politician says he likes the color blue more then any other, somewhere out there is a group of people in support of the color red that now hate his guts. All we hear are the complaints. No one is going to give up their week end to march to Washington and hold a sign in front of the Capitol that says "I think your doing a great job". But since we hear complaints every day by more people then we can count then we come to the natural conclusion that these guys are scum. It really doesn't help when a few actually are (caught taking bribes or molesting pages).
I have a low opinion of most of these people myself but I have to admit its not entirely justified. I try to remember that and judge them as fairly as possible but in our world of instant information and all of it bad, thats a hard job.

As with religion--Who are we to say what's 'wrong' about a candidate if it isn't criminal? Who cares what the person's religion is or what special interest groups they support? Just about all politicians follow a religion--or want us to think they do--and all of them are beholden to special interest groups if they've held elected office for any significant length of time.
You make the best of what you've got and hope the person won't cause too much harm along the way. That's the way it's always been. To engage in politics is the ultimate act of both cynicism and faith.

If he were alive Andrew Jackson would be my man. However the current crop are just status quo and we are too fragmented as a nation by race, religion, special interest and the money they spend on public opinion campaigns that spin the public to the point that many blame whoever is in office now for problems that have been growing for generations. The truth is too easily avoided.
I would not have the job.If they asked me to get it fixed I would say make me total dictator.
The IRS and all the lobbys in DC would be out of work within the first two years.

I agree with you, for the first time in 17 years of voting I have no clue who is (in my opinion) the best candidate. As a woman, I am expected to pick Clinton, but she has no more business being president than her husband did. Rudy is trying to win on Sept 11th, Obama was honest about past problems but is he qualified to be president. This is going to be a hard choice to make, I have read all their views and just can't make up my mind! Anyone know of any good websites that can help?

Except for Ronnie Reagan, every election for Presisnet since I was old enough to vote has been picking the lessor of two evils. Sometimes I wonder why I bother.

Bush doesn,t talk to me anymore, otherwise i would help him to tell the world that America will leave everybody in peace from now on..and to work in something more human, not war.
I heard that his going to close all the guns factory, is that true?
