It seems kinda "up front" and "in your face" when you're telling people what you want them to buy you right? It seems uncomfortable in a way. If it's friends or aquaintences I usually joke and say "oh just bare neccessities, socks & underwear" and they usually laugh etc...it's no so bad

Depends on the person. If a casual friend, my first response would be "oh, you don't have to get anything" but, if they pursue the topic, I'd probably say "a gift card from some place we could enjoy together".
If it is a family member, I'd probably start out the same way , then say something about work clothes.
I mentioned to one family member that "gift card" like purchases at half.com were high on my interest list.
If it is someone wealthy, I might joke about how I would love to have a new laptop.
And, to my wife, I say that what I want is no credit card charges or other debts run up over the holidays...

Well I came to an agreement a long time ago with friends. We dont buy personal gifts for each other. Thats not what its supposed to be about. We just get together for a day and have a good time. Everyone brings a food dish. I only buy for the kids and keep it to a minimum.

All I want for Christmas is my 2 front teeth! Seriously, I just say "it doesn't matter." I always think if a person cares enough to try to pick out a present I might like, that's present enough.

I usually just say that i want the day to be relaxed and no fights. Happy kids, good food and family conversation. Might sound boring to some but others( especially mums) would probably agree with me.

I just ask people to do whatever they want (I'll still appreciate it for the thought)!
If it's a persistent relative or something, I just ask them to ask me things then I'll rate it. Example, if she says, "video games," I say, go for it! or something like that, depending on the thing she says. I'm a gamer. XD

My children have asked me the same question, I just say, as long as I have a card from you I am happy.

Tell your friend what you want. If you want to get mushy you can say "I don't want anything your friendship is enough." Thats what I tell my friends when they ask me and I don't know what I want.
