I was watching 'Hairspray' and, as much as I love that movie, I couldn't help but notice that the director had no idea how to do dance scenes. To be honest, I could even say there weren't any! For instance when the little girl was dancing, they only filmed her from the shoulders up! It's like I'm being told she's a great dancer, but I can't see her dance. Also, there are so many scenes where you can hear that they are filming the TV show, with elaborate choreography and everything, and all they are showing is Velma talking to that old guy. I want some serious sixties cheesy dance moves and poofy crinoline.

I agree! It also bugs me when they use a famous actor, but someone else does all their dancing. So, when they're suppose to be dancing, they show a close up the famous actor from the shoulders up, and then another close up of an actual dancer from the shoulders down. And then they show the look-a-like dancer's whole body dancing, but only from far away.

The talent in those 60s musicals was extraordinary. There are people just as talented out there today. I wish they'd use them more!
