Skype is a software program created by the entrepreneurs Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis. Skype allows users to make telephone calls from their computer to other Skype users free of charge, or to landlines and cell phones for a fee. Additional features include instant messaging, file transfer, short message service, video conferencing and its ability to circumvent firewalls.

If you have friends or relatives that you spend a long time on the phone too and they also have Skype, then it is worth investing in a Skype compatible phone. and spending hours on the phone to them for free. The phones really are quite cheap and simply plug into your PC.

You can just download the Skype software, plug in your Skype phone and start enjoying the facility.

Hope this helps.

Explain Skype To Me

Skype is very simple actually. It's a free sign-up and then you are able to "call" other people who are signed on anywhere in the world free. It requires a high speed provider, a microphone and if you wish to add a cam you can. Do not sign up to call regular phone lines. They charge for that and it's not necessary and do not use their link for chat rooms. You will get every wacko from everywhere. My husband and I use it when he is traveling in Europe and China. After you set up your ID placing a call is as simple as clicking on the green dial button. The person you are calling has to be online and when you are done, just click on the red stop button. The line is as clear as if you were on any regular phone line. Go to the site and check it out.

Skype is a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) programe which is widely used.

For what?

To communicate with our kins & friends using voice from computer to computer. Additionally it also offers many features, such as creating 3D avartars. We can also use it to directly call a mobile (if you have paid) by using Skype over the internet. Not to mention SMS to mobile phones too. You can also use it as an IM (instant messaging)

The user interface or UI is nice to look at.

Hope you got what you wanted.

As the above. I have it, but find it of limited use. Have to call Holland on Volpstunt to tell them to switchn their computer on and prepare...!
But it's good fun with the ability to send written messages and some of theirgraphics etc.
