Doing LSD can have long lasting effects but the sleeplessness is probably caused by some other issue and he is focussing on the drug use by way of avoiding the issue. It's tough being nineteen. I had a similar experience at his age, and I was told that although the effects of the acid are not reversible, your brain adapts, so you do not notice. Really, that number is not great. I took over 30 while I knew people who took more than 200. Since then I have had an active and successful life and held down jobs of considerable stress and responsibility. I really would not worry too much. Beware of taking herbs. Some can cause convulsions. I ended up in hospital not long ago after taking a herbal sleeping potion.

Try ice skating, sky diving, bunje jumping, law school, medical school, Karate classes, epidemiology, physics, theoretical computer science (Turing Machines), South American Politics, Middle Eastern Politics, Russian Politics, International Politics, International Law, Economics, Hugo Chavez politics, the Cheney-Addington Factor, ad infinitum..
If he keeps busy, he will not have to think about his lost pencil and lose sleep over that - he'll be 2 busy thinking about Russia's Putin next move... (oh, and he'll probably enjoy it 2).
Good luck.

My thought is that if he is not willing to doctor shop, why is he using herbs which are not even regulated by the FDA? Herbs are just unregulated drugs. I would say if he did not like his doctor, find one he likes.

Its highly likely your son's sleeping problems is not due to the acid tabs. Maybe there are other things disturbing you son's sleep. Why did he take 8 antacid tabs? Was he suicidal? This might be the cause of his insomnia....

I know people that have had side effects from drugs. A friend of mine does, a detox diet and eats only vegan foods for around a month. It fixed her anxiety, tiredness, vertigo, etc. That means no alcohol too. You need to be disciplined, but it does work. I have seen the results.

Most things heal with time-he could try a white noise relaxation tape-also he could try sleeping with a lamp on.
