Aren't Mormon's also Christians? Is the difference a couple of extra books of the bible? Where did the extra books come from? What other differences are there?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormonism) is a beautiful Christian religion. You should be extremely careful when trying to learn about Mormons from others. There are many who hate the Mormons and spread lies, distortions, and conspiracy theories about them. Others think they understand Mormon doctrine because of "what they've heard," but are actually misinformed.

Because Mormons are Christian, we believe in most of the things that Christians believe, including:

1) Christ is divine and salvation comes only through Him.
2) The Bible is the word of God.
3) Men ought to love one another.

Mormons are a unique branch of Christianity, however. We are neither Catholic nor Protestant, so naturally we have some different beliefs. Most of the differences are minor. One significant difference has to do with the authority to act in God's name. Mormons believe that soon after the death of Christ and His apostles, the early Christian Church was greatly influenced by Greek and Roman philosophies and political pressures. Despite the efforts of many good men and women, the true Church of Christ was eventually lost because of these outside pressures and internal, man-made changes. Mormons believe that God reestablished the original Church of Christ in 1820 through a man named Joseph Smith.

Mormons also believe that the Book of Mormon is scripture, in addition to (but NOT in place of) the Bible.

Hope this helps! Mormon Christianity has changed my life by helping me better follow Jesus Christ.

I can't answer your whole question but they are Christians. They have the book of Mormon which even they will tell you is the most perfect word of God. Which is along story but Joseph smith transcribed it with tools he was given. But all the false doctrines they have are not from the book of Mormon but some are from the way they interpret the bible, and some are from other books they say they have. Read the book of Mormon and you will also wonder how they stray from God's word.

Actually Mormonism is really closer to the Pagan religions of Rome and Greece. Just as these religions the Mormons believe in multiple gods, in fact they believe in the possibility of countless gods being god's of their own planets throughout the universe. They use some Christian terminology which may confuse some to believe they are similar to Christianity but they are not. Christians believe in only one God in the Trinity.

Take a look at www.mormon.org for the official site or also www.allaboutmormons.com

Our beliefs dont match those of mainstream christians but they do match those of the early church in the New Testament.

We will only become "Gods" in the respect that we will assist in the ruling in the Kingdom as priests to the Lord Jesus Christ.

The "magic underwear" isnt magic at all. I find it thoroughly disgusting that people mention it so often. The temple garments are purely reminders of the promises we have made to the Lord in the Holy Temple.

We do not believe in the Trinity as it is not a biblical concept. God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit are three separate entities.

Many point out certain aspects of our religion as been totally off the wall of main-stream religion such as the disbelief in the trinity, an 'extra' or 'added' book to the Bible, wierd things like 'magic underwear' (I hate it when they say! Refer to Captain Moroni's post), and even pologamy (whole other topic)

But I prefer to think of us as unique because we are the only Christian church (that I know of) that have a LIVING prophet of God and apostles and seventies and the such. We also believe (I know!) to have the priesthood here on the earth again. Through these, the prophet and the holy priesthood, we are able to recieve revelations from God.

Most of the other Christians believe that revelation stopped with the New Testament and that God does not speak to us anymore in that fashion and will not give us further instructions for our day and age. I testify that this is not true! God is the same yesterday, today, and forever! He is continually speaking to his children through prophets and scriptures and he will keep speaking to us til we finally reach our goal to live with him forever.

As to the 'extra book' The Book of Mormon is the most correct book on the earth, and was written by an ancient people who lived in the Americas. God guided them through they're struggles and their record was kept safe so that WE, you and me, and that guy over there, can be blessed with its teachings. I'm reading it for about the third time and am still finding things new and am still totally amazed by it. Check out the websites Captain Moroni gave you.

Like all Bible offshoot religions the Mormons seem to have waded through the good book picking and choosing what best suited their own agenda along with some add ins given by an angel. The real Bible says if anyone adds or takes away from its message let him be accursed. I agree. Know them by their fruits.

The very recent Book of Mormon was plagiarised from both the Bible and the Koran. It's 'creator' was a charlatan who found a great way to make money.

Ok, that's a very limited and short reply. Serious study of its origins etc will answer your question more fully.

At the end of the day, all religions are man-made. Nearly always through the requisite, ill-educated, prophet.
