There are numerous sensors in a car which measure some physical property and convert it into either an analog or digital signal. Most people realize that modern cars have a computer to control the engine but many do not realize that there are multiple computers networked together. (CAN-LIN buss). These computers need sensors and controls so the computers can monitor and adjust the engine and other components.

Companies like Sensata develop and supply many different types of electronic sensors for the automotive industry.
