The haters on here keep on about what dreadful parents Kate and Gerry McCann are, but I've seen worse in my local High Street: parents smacking thier children; feeding them junk; leaving them by the magazines while they do their shopping; shouting at them for no reason; driving them around without safety seats let alone safety belts; children as young as 5 or 6 travelling on buses alone; the list goes on...
If you are so concerned about child neglect why not volunteer some of your clearly abundant free time to do something to help real cases of neglect and abuse?
Here's a few suggestions to be going on with:

Lovely to see some of the positive responses - but of course you're not the people I'm targetting!

Mrs Sanchez! AKA Stormy - taking your kids to McD's now and then for a treat isn't a problem, but I do despair when I see fat toddlers being pushed around in their buggies with enormous bags of cheesy puffs and fizzy drinks!!

Skidoo can you add Sova? A national charity that provides volunteer mentors for young people?
They are fantastic, I don't know what we would do without mentors in my job, they can do all sorts for children in care, children with difficult family lives, children in trouble, children lacking direction, children who are young carers, children with educational problems, children with emotional and behavioural problems . . . . .
Sova recruit, train and provide supervision and support to volunteer mentors and their service is invaluable!

Those things you list are indeed rotten ways to treat the child in your life, and I too witness some cruel parental behaviour ~ although I am guilty of the odd McDonald treat for my 2 ~ however I am in no way one of the McCann haters, it bugs me to be called it (its not necessarily you actually Skidoo) I am not in the same league as McCann opener thank God!
I do think there could be more to the story than a plain and simple abduction, but will have to see what happens.
BTW I do donate via standing order to NSPCC each month.
I cry when I see children being badly treated, mine are cherished by all our family, sadly they are the lucky ones.

I live in Bulgaria where there are a number of children's homes in desperate need of funds I am at the moment trying to find the locations and addresses of these homes and also trying to form an organization will be capable of accepting charitable donations and help to distribute these funds in a proper way. Many of thes homes are in small villages in houses without heating or even hot water so you can imagine the magnitude of this task.None are licensed so there is no government list of these homes When I have managed to complete this task I then have to find a way of getting some financial funds from"saving the children funds" .

I'm not a McCann hater, and I do do something about child neglect. I donate to the NSPCC, I do charity events to raise money for victims of abuse, and I also help out at the children's home. My mum works for Barnardos, and helps the children and parents to overcome their issues.

Hey Hoo Hubba Hubba!!! Keep talking, girl!!!! I work on the parent leadership team of Parents Anonymous and am active with the New Hampshire Coalition against Child Abuse. It is not enough to gripe and moan about child abuse. People need to put their words into action!!!

I don't have a drink since the beginning of the year because I drive a lot and most of the "free time" you call I spend with my daughter, you know why? because that's what parents do!
Do you have children?
Do you know that child neglect it's an awful heavy crime?
Do you realise that there is more children in the situation of Madeleine and maybe she's dead (hope not) but thousands of children abducted still alive which don't have half of the publicity that a maybe dead child have.
Please have a reality check and think about it...
oh and have some respect for children whom it's not their fault that we have people like McJeckyll & McHide in our society.
And having said that I agree with Angel (but hate that kind of food and my daughter don't have that).

Here, here!
Well said babe.
Half the people on here would have you believe they did something to help.
Don`t be fooled.
Most of them wouldn`t dream of lifting a finger.
The sort of people who help are NEVER quick to judge!
I work with children and have children of my own.
I like to think I`m doing an okay job with my own children and the ones I work with. But some poeple on here think their perfect.
They make comments "oh that could never happen to me"
blah
blah
blah
They then judge everyone else, i.e. the McCanns!
Why don`t you all put up and shut up going on obsessively
about someone elses down fall.
I read on here that if you support the McCanns you must support child abuse??!!!!
Not only a stupid thick comment to make, but some people replied in agreement.
Idiots!

In case you didn't know, YA is not a soapbox for you to stand on and preach to the rest of us members as if we are bad little children who need a talking to. Many people do volunteer their time and money to help children in need. (including myself as if it is any of your business). How about you keep on doing your good deeds and stop judging people who aren't as "giving" as you.
