Honda, Toyota, and Nissan all have factories in the USA. They do so for economic reasons. By making the vehicles inside the USA they avoid import tarrifs and shipping costs.

The United States of America can not order Japan to do anything because Japan, (Nippon,) is a sovereign state.

The USA can not order any other country to do anything. They could "suggest," a course of action for the other country, and if that country did not act in the suggested manner then the only recourse for the USA is to impose sanctions.

These sanctions range from financial and economic all the way to declaring war.

Perhaps the better question for you is why do American automobile makers insist on presenting the same old same old year after year when their market share continues to errode? Why can't the American car makers pull their heads out? That is the real question here.

Just about every Japanese auto manufacturer has plants here in the United States (Honda in Marysville, OH, for example). Though, it sounds like you're talking about it for automobile quality?

Ford is #2 to Honda in quality and reliablity scores but beat everyone else out. And they're closing in on Honda quickly. With the increase of technology that we're seeing in engineering and manufacturing techniques, quality and reliablity in cars is going to increase as time goes on. That's why cars now are FAR more superior to cars made, even a mere 10 years ago.

As for the Japanese companies buying out American companies? Talk about stabbing the US economy in the back. Also, as a Ford employee who works with Honda and Toyota (yes, I'm a Ford employee but I don't work for Ford) I would rather do work for a company that I can see their headquarters, or drive past their proving grounds sometime in a week.

As some other people have mentioned, American and or Japan have nothing to do with these companies. These are all publicly traded companies and the governments have nothing to do with them. Just as the US government can't tell any US company how to run their business, all they can do is create certain incentives to make it worth the companies while to create jobs here or act in a certain way. It's a global economy and free market and consumers have choices. Unfortunately like you I feel like foriegn vehicles are much more reliable than american made although it pains me to say that. Unfortunately the american worker and union mentality has in many ways made it harder for the american car manufacturers to compete.

Those cars ARE made here and many of the parts are subbed from Ford and GMC.
