Tell her you got too loaded and couldn't finish it on time.

That's believable.

I don't know your circumstances, but I know if someone handed something late in my class, things such as computer crashed, usb/hard drive broke and lost all the work so had to start again, printer wouldn't work, etc, are NOT acceptable excuses according to the teachers. Sad but true.

Why did you hand it in late? Was it procrastination? Have you been going through a lot of stress or upset lately and had difficulty finishing it?

If so, you can see a doctor and ask them for a doctor's certificate, saying that you were sick yesterday and unable to go to school and need a certificate (I have done this.. I was sick because I stayed up all night for a few nights working on the assignment).
Or you could even see the school councilor and explain the situation to them, they may talk to the teacher or give you a note.

If there was no real great reason as to why it was late, the best thing might just be to apologize and tell the truth. Remember that teacher's have heard every excuse under the sun, it would be difficult to come up with something believable.

I once began to give a lecturer in uni a really good excuse and found that I just couldn't do it..so I told him the truth instead; I forgot to start the assignment until it was too late for me to finish it on time; I was sorry for doing so and would endeavour not to repeat the offence...Fortunately he had a sense of humour and as it was the first time he had heard this excuse, he actually let it go at that. Your teacher may not be so easily amused but he or she will probably appreciate the simple and apologetic truth more than a barely believable, unsubstantiated lie they have already head a thousand times during their careers. The truth may get you into a little trouble..and you should accept any reasonable punishment without an argument...but lying gets you disliked and distrusted besides being disrespectful to the teacher and to yourself.

Depends a bit on the teacher.
* There are some who might appreciate honesty.
* There are some who will be satisfied with the standard food poisoning or 24 hour flu excuse.
* I remember using the period cramp excuse on male teachers in high school (they never ask questions!).
* Migraines are another ole'faithful.
* For the touchy feely types, you can talk about how your parents have been fighting a lot lately and you have been put in the middle. That one could backfire, though, if the teacher will ever meet your parents.
* Another excuse that can work well with touchy feely types is that you've been really depressed lately. The problem with this is that you don't want to have to explain it to the school psych.
* Some teachers are sympathetic if you tell them that you're overworked and just ran out of time. But the reason why they're sympathetic is that excuse usually comes from the good students who are being honest.
* Your grandmother had to go to the hospital is another one that teachers generally won't quibble with (unless they're heartless!).
* The computer failing is not my favorite excuse. But it could work if you've never used that excuse before.

Hope something on the list clicks for you.

Excuses For Late Homework

Your computer's printer failed and you didn't have the money to buy a new one. You were forced to use a friends computer to complete the assignment. Your friend lives an hour away and was only available on X day to let you use the computer.
Otherwise, you were sick and could not finish the assignment on-time. Get a doctor's note only if asked for one.

heres an Idea... If you have that bad of a mental condition, drop out of law school and find a less stressful major to study.... I am not sure you have a full grasp on what you are getting into, how will you function when you are due in court, in front of a JUDGE?? Do you think he will take any excuses as to why you havent prepared for a case that your client is facing? What exactly did you think being a lawyer was? A Cake Walk?

Computer crashed. Had to work late. Had to look after younger siblings. You didn't understand it. Or just tell the teacher you didn't finish it off completely and if you could have an extra day. Then cram!

I was a great crammer! :)

If you don't have a legitimate reason, take responsibility and take the zero grade on the assignment. You might not believe this now, but teachers are a lot more aware of what's going on than you think they are. Your teacher will respect you for being honest and you'll have a better reputation with him/her in the long run.

You can say what really happened to it why it has been delayed, its better to be honest than not, but remember to apologize first before saying whatever alibis you have to your teacher and promise him that it wont happen again.
