The patriarch Jacob had an encounter with God
Gen 28:13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;

Jacob even made a prayer......Gen 28:20-21 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God

Q1) DO YOU THINK JACOB WAS SAVED/JUSTIFIED IN GENESIS 28?

Q2) IF NOT, WHEN WAS HE JUSTIFIED??

Have we ever considered that we may be professing Christians for year, had encounters with God like Abraham and Jacob..................but when exactly are we justified with true saving faith???

Many are called, few chosen..............and alas, all of us presumed we are chosen, don't we...? Have we made our calling and election sure?

Ok, maybe if you want to be picky, Jacob experience the effect of the forgiveness of his sins, since some of you are picky that the Lord Jesus had not come in the OT.

My point is, how long after Jacob experienced God before he experienced forgiveness of sins?

Q2) Putting it bluntly - how long after you had gone to Church and experience the Holy Spirit, before you taste the experience of the forgivness of your sins???

Question 1: I'm not sure Jacob was justified in chapter 28 according to the definition of salvation in Romans 10:9-10. In those verses the words "saved" and "salvation" signify a covenant relationship with Jesus Christ. I believe that all prophets in the past had knowledge of Christ and preached salvation in his name (Acts 10:43). The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy (Rev 19:10). Thus, I believe Jacob, sometime in his lifetime, established a covenant relationship with the Lord. When exactly that was, I do not know. But we do know that it did happen (Matt 8:11).

I really am not sure at what point Jacob was justified (or Abraham, or any of the OT saints), but we do know from Hebrews 11 that he was indeed justified. I am comforted in seeing how Jacob faltered in his humanity in his walk with the Lord because I see God's grace & mercy throughout. Certainly none of us DESERVES this mercy. God knows our heart (or should I say, those to whom He has performed a heart-transplant).

Many of us cannot even point to a time WHEN we were given saving faith, but it is imperitive that we know THAT we are living for Christ. This self-examination is indeed Biblical & spiritually healthy.

Frenzy- amending my religion, I know no such thing. The Old Testament saints looked forward to God's provision of a Savior as we look back to the cross in realization of that propitiation.

When a person surrenders his or her ego to God and sincerely asks God for forgiveness and Salvation, that person is then "gifted" with the Holy Spirit of promise. And yes at that very moment that person is justified By God.

Jacob lived under the covennat that God had with Abraham, he was right with God (justified), but we live not under a covenant but under grace in Christ Jesus so we are justified (made right) by accepting Christ as Lord of our hearts,

Who cares?
I know when I was saved/justified.
When I believed into the name of Jesus Christ and was born again into the family of God, through the power of the Holy Spirit, who has been with me these 37 years now.
If you want to split theological hairs, that's your business.
