I think it has do with how some of the young black youth were taught and raised. I mean I'm a young black woman myself, and I was taught about going to school, getting a good education, even finding a decent job. But soon as I got pretty good at writing my folks wanted that to be the only thing I went for. I mean they wanted me to be a lawyer at first. But once some talent started showing they wanted to keep me in that mould and be a money maker off of that. So I think with other young black youth of today, they are taught that either you turn a profit off your talents or you tamp them down and work a blue collar job. Not many families can really afford decent schools or education for their kids so they don't encourage much about work ethic. But if you are great at basketball or football or something, the parents know they can get a scholarship off of that and get a better education. Mind you they don't go as far as seeing their kids with jobs or anything, as they feel that society will always oppress them. So they try to say get as much as you can, but don't shoot for the moon. Because you will be smacked back down. I mean my aunt, uncle, and even parents always tell me and my cousins that. That no matter how much you strive for in America, others just won't respect you because you are different from the white people in this country and they will do their damndest to keep you down. I personally don't believe that, because I know I have a strong enough will to be what I want to be one day, and I won't let anything hold me down. So when I have kids I will encourage all aspects of their lives not just the one that is talented but every aspect. Make sure they are well rounded and well educated.

Wow. Your question unfairly stereotypes a whole race of young people!! Who are "the majority" and how is it that you know "the majority" of black youth in your town, village, state, country, in order to be able to make such a statement??!! "The majority" that I know are very bright, enthusiastic students, valuable, expert, productive employees, model citizens, and great neighbors!

Kindly, do not generalise things, think of human beings not blacks, not whites. Do you mean there is no black PhD holders,no black professors ? Of the leading stars how many are blacks. Have you made the research and that is a results?

Wow, I definetely think you are stereotyping.
Do you go to school currently?
I recently graduated from school in June and the young african americans that were in my school were very smart and focused on their studies just as much, if not more than the white students.

I don't ever hear young white, yellow, purple, or blue kids say they need to study either. Maybe it is a young thing...not a race thing.
