Or, even if it is not a "pledge to the flag," anything roughly equivalent?

Wedgie, after reading your response, I looked up the "oath of allegiance" and "oath of citizenship." The content of these oaths is similar to that of the U.S. pledge of allegiance. (Sometimes including an optional "under G-d.") But apparently, the citizenship oaths are recited just once, when a person becomes a citizen. The U.K.'s oath of allegiance is recited before taking one's seat in parliament. So far I see no evidence of an oath that must be taken daily at the start of school.

There is not any authorized duty to swear allegiance to the United States and any person who refuses to do it are not able to be punished. Therefore it's not relevant who you pledge to. So accordingly, you are not able to legally be attempted as a traitor, despite the fact that, in a few peoples' eyes, you'll be viewed one. However, different folks might feel of you as a hero for exercise your proper to freedom of speech, or on this case, freedom to not talk.
