It seems to me that if you don't believe in something, it should be of no consequence to you. So why would you hang out here and devote so much time to the topic?

I can't have dairy, and so it is of no consequence to me. So you wouldn't find me hanging out in a cheese-themed chat room.

I think that's the thing I least understand about atheism. So much time is spent attacking others' belief systems and trying to be clever... why does it even matter to y'all?

For all who said this question is asked often, sorry about that... it didn't bring up any similar questions when I wrote it.

Parrot, I appreciate your answer - that made sense AND wasn't insulting. :) (A miracle around here, it seems!)

ACk....faints dead away

This question has been asked so many times the atheists have made a drinking game out of it.

Now, for my two points I would suggest you google "Atheism is a religion" and find out that the United States Court system has ruled that Atheism is indeed a religion (and boy do they hate it when I say this) so they are welcome to be here.

Many gives the religion idea a try, but when the teachings do not relate to your daily life because of distortions, it is easy to give it up and decide to be an atheist. People have not woken up to their responsability that we have a free will and we MUST make choices ourselves, not let the responsability over to governments who serve the structure of its own greed. It is natural to try to convince others about your own point of view and if the soul is not mature, it will attack others' beliefsystems.

Distortions are all things and deeds that is a crime against evolution; greed, money, pollution, culture of violence and lies in media etc. These crimes make the world unhealthy and we must say a distinct NO to selfishness and greed in order to influence the mechanism that hurts our souls and our environment. When people get in trouble they usually tend to turn for guidance by higher powers, which is good, but they forget the choices of free will before the crisis appeared. Believing is a committment, you have to have a desire in order to get. Ask and it shall be given, not forced upon, as free will is a Law of Everything and a gift given by the Guardian Of Divine.

some of those belief systems attack the way those people are allowed to live their lives.

i don't get the cheese argument I'm quite sure they are not allergic to religion - break out in boils and such like.

atheist is an extreme reaction, one would suggest that the amount your complaining about would suggest an overall breakdown of religion...

personally i think they are scared that the big guy wont help us until we help ourselves.

that being the case they need you religious guys to get your nose off the floor and the knees of the pew and go and demand the man who actually can change things - Does.

I suppose because an atheist is by definition someone who has thought long and hard about this subject, and even though they have arrived at a conclusion that is not the same as yours or other believers, they still have an interest in it. Speaking for myself, I'm an atheist but I am still really interested in religion. Furthermore, I am also interested in how people have maintained their faith whilst I lost mine, and why the arguments or logic that impacted on me make no difference to them.

I don't know why it wouldn't have come up with similar results...

Anyway, the reason I'm here is because there are a lot of questions directly aimed at Atheists. Also because we have no section of our own, and I like to debate religion, it's a hobby...

we live in a world where we are surrounded by religion so it affects us no matter what. also why do you assume that all atheist don't believe in spiritual aspects. people vote for laws and candidates based on religion so it does affect us. don't be ignorant.

edit: plus it's not like we just decided to come to yahoo answers to discuss religion. i came to yahoo answers while researching vampires. while waiting for questions i came here because it's the same thing and i thought there'd be more spiritual questions. i then got addicted ( i was suspended and had nothing better to do)

When pendulum of clock is moving toward right, it's gaining the moment for it's journey towards left. Mind is clever and always tries to consolidate answers for it’s convenience. Both atheists and theists are doing the same thing.

The religion and spirituality section is to ask and answer religion and spirituality questions, the name of the section indicates the topic of the questions and not the label of the people who participate here.

The bandwagon mentality works at best on the internet. I am no christian myself but I see the workings of indoctrination among atheists. The religious evangelizes in churches, the anti-theists/atheist mob use cyberspace. Plus they are intoxicated by the thought that they hold the key to the truth and that other people are intellectually inferior to them. Excuse their eagerness to prove to you their superiority. They have no church but cyberspace.

Being an Athiest has nothing to to with not being spiritual, it just means that you dont believe in god. And I dont htink you have to believe in god to be spiritual, spirit is just another name for a conscience. Plus like you christians I do like to get my point across, and if anone has any questions regarding my beliefe I am here ready to answer.
