Is becoming really annoying with what he calls his new found "gangsta" ways. He goes around sagging his pants listening to horrid rap music and always going on about his "homies in the streets" and it's really starting to make me question his sanity. So I got to thinking, for Christmas, do any of you think I should I help my dear eldest sister by getting her son institutionalized?

Send him to military school. Some place in the middle of nowhere Utah. That ought to fix his wagon.

My 15 year old son is the same, l really don't know why he wears trousers because they are always round his knees!! l thought l had a freak for a son untill l went into town and saw a load of other kids all with their rears hanging out. I went through the "goth" stage when l was his age and if l was you l'd do what my mum did she took a photo of me enlarged it and put it on the living room wall. Once he catches sight of how he really looks it should snap him out of that. As for the gangsta speak start talking like it yourself that shuts them up.

He'll grow out of it.

But in the meantime, maybe you should help expose him to other aspects of life. Perhaps by taking him to a ball game or nascar event. Or maybe you could help get him into a youth sports club or other activity that will put some distance between him and his homies.

You did not say how close you live to your sister and her son, but if you are near by -- there are many things you can do as his cool uncle to open his eyes to other pursuits.

Military school is the best :~) He and your sister will be mad at first. But, your nephew will respect his Mother and probably
even you. Let him know that his, "homies" aren't going to pay
his bills, visit him in the hospitol or take care of him if he does
at some point, get kicked out of the house.

I have to agree with Molly; military school would be just the thing for him. I loathe the sagging pants look; it is so stupid, but then, we dressed weird when I was that age. Kids always seem to find the most appalling things to do to upset us older adults!

He is only 15, trends come and go for people at that age. (they still do at mine *lol* (17)). He is most likely following a crowd, acting like that because it is seen as 'cool'. I would just say that you should just leave him, it could become uncool to dress like that or it could bore him, or he could get interested in a new trend.

Unless he does something drastic to keep 'in' with all the action (ie violence, happy slapping etc) just leave it to run its course. Also if you are openly against him and forbid him to dress as such, you would only motivate him to disobey you and his mother etc.

It is just a phase. Think back to when you were 15. You were trying to fit in/find yourself/make the girls like you... Just be a good role model and make sure the other men in his life are doing the same. Soon he'll realize that it is better to be better.

He's just going through a phase, and he'll get bored with it soon. Teenage boys are so hyped up on their hormones that they tend to do amazingly stupid things. Making a big deal out of this is only going to make it blow up in your face. As I said, it's a phase and he will grow out of it.

Why, so he can make more gangsta friends. He's just hanging around the wrong crowd. Get him involved doing other things so he's not just hanging out so much.
