I think we should get rid of the Pledge entirely. It's simply indoctrination. But, if children *have* to pledge to something, have it be the Constitution, not a piece of fabric, and leave fictional characters out of it.

Interesting that although this pledge was written by a Baptist minister, it did not originally include the words 'under God'. Also interesting is the fact that it was written as part of an ad campaign designed to sell flags to schools. It worked. Every schoolroom in the country now has an American flag in it in addition to the large flag and flagpole outside the school.
The words have changed slightly since then, (The flag instead of my flag and and the addition of "under God" in 1954)
My question is Why should it be recited at all? Does it really mean anything to the children who recite it?

Take it back out. It has only been in the pledge for 50 years.

TAKE IT OUT!! If they want god in it they could just say it silently to themselves. Actually it was added during world war I and did you all know that we usted to salute the flag the same way the nazis did?? With our right arm extended and pointing towards the flag.

The original version doesn't have it. It was put in during the 50's. The original was written by Francis Bellamy.

Remove that unconstitutional phrase!
It breaks up the rhythm of the original pledge.
I want it OUT so we can move away from the last memory of McCarthyism. It has f-all to do with political correctness. It is unconstitutional, period.
And I won't get started on coerced speech from children, even as we teach them they live in a free country.
To every idiot saying "Allah", you're showing your ignorance. That's just the Arabic name for God, quite similar to Yahweh. Christian Arabs pray to Allah.

I use to think that we should just leave it in and not say it if we arent Christian, but then I realized that it really is wrong to have it in there.
Young kids forced to say it who arent Christian become very confused when school tells them something different from their family's beliefs. Many times this has a negative impact on the child.
Constitutionally, its wrong as well. To have that direct statement voids the seperation of church and state in my mind, and is offensive to religous freedom.
Overall, theres no reason to have it in there except to please Christians. If youre Christian, feel free to say it extra, but dont make the rest of us have to conform to your religion when you could just as easily make it friendly to all people.

Welcome to America. Land of appeasing the minority.
The average joe could care less and the average joe understands if they choose to say it in the pledge they arent worshipping some theocracy. It is the alarmists who are motivating this ridiculous division within our country.
