I am in the same age group as you are and I have wanted to act on stage my whole life. I didn't want to spend loads of money on it. To me i didn't feel it was worth spending hundreds of dollars on something that either came naturally or didn't.

My challenge was waiting till high school to get the classes and experience i needed to make it in the real world. My first year of high school I was as involved as i could be i did every thing from being there for every crew day and working backstage when i was not casted. Trust me, acting in high school is as much about who you know and favorites as it is in the real world. So if you do want to get casted you are going to have to get your face and name out there. Go to all the drama meetings you can and audition whenever possible! Even if you dont get cast, that doesnt mean your not good. Don't give up, just try try again. Also volenteer to do backstage props or tech. When the director sees you have been working hard he/she will know you have the responsiblity.

Acting class is a good start! it definately teaches you proper stage pressence and breathing techniques you need.

As for the singing part if you dont want to pay money on classes get some Broadway shows you like from the library. Do your best to hit the note and tone they do when singing. You could also rent some singing tapes that train your voice. And remember to always use your diaphragm.

If your theatre is anything like mine we need all the guys we can get.

Be in all the school plays. Take all the speech and drama stuff and do oral interp. You improve your singing voice by taking private voice lessons. Be in school chorus.

I hate to tell you, but your friends don't know squat about what being an actor is all about.

If you get cast in the school plays then maybe you should try to be an actor, if you don;'t, well;;;;;;;

Write scripts with your friends who are interested in doing it and shoot short films with a cheep digital camera. You can start acting in this films.
Also, you can check if there are any film schools in your town, you can always call those and say that you want to act. They may give you auditions. Sometimes they have open calls.
I know you said you cannot take any classes. Unfortunately, I think it is the best way to go. It is very important to learn the craft and the professor's guidance may be invaluable.

Keep in mind that the most important thing is to get practice and experience. Find ways to do it. Join a local theater. Do plays with your friends, short film, etc....
