The fact is, I enjoy both equally, I have no preference. I'm told I have a great baritone/bass voice, especially for a high-schooler, but am also a proficient acoustic/jazz guitarist. I know whichever I choose to get serious about will get me some relative success, so I want input. Which would you, as the public, prefer to see a young adult break out into: Jazz guitar or theater?

Both - they are not mutually exclusive. A lot of actors and actresses are also musicians, and a lot of musicians are also actors or actresses. There is no reason for you not to go into both. See you rocking some theater somewhere soon! You are going to open for me, right? ;)

Maybe you could try being serious at both. Once opportunities arise and your skill starts developing more, this is where you'll see what you're really born to do and what your heart loves to do. Maybe you just lack doing these things over and over again to see which one is something you really like and which one is something that you soon will get tired of.

Get more experience for both. Perform a lot, then maybe you will see which one you prefer to perform for.

In reality, it is nice to both see a good guitarist and a good theater person... the choice remains in you.

Another thing to look out for is the needs of the people around you. Is there an organization that needs a theater person? Is there a group that needs a guitarist? Maybe you can use your talents to help them, then stay dedicated to that one talent you choose to use to help others :D

God bless

Follow your heart.

That being said, I think I would choose guitar. As a guitarist, you can incorporate your singing and stage skills, while you can not really use your instrumental abilities as an actor. Also, guitar is better as you get older, because it is an easier hobby to keep up with. As long as you have your instrument you can play, but if you went into theater you would have to audition and rehearse all the time. Along the same lines, you will have more opportunities to practice and hone your talents as a guitar player.

Another thought is, while they are both admired skills, actors are a dime a dozen. Everyone loves a talented musician. Girls dig guitars.
