I have alot of games for the PS2, and i am happy with it; however i saw a game previewed for PS3 and i want to get the game really bad, i am also anticipating an upcoming game. So over all there are really only 2 games i would buy for the PS3. I really want these games so i must get the PS3 in order to play them, but i am concerned. The money isn't a big issue, but i would like to knock the price down a bit. If i sell a few old unwanted games and my PS2 all that money will go towards the PS3, but what about those games left over? Will those be playable on the PS3? What are the perks to PS3?

Really if i can make enough money from selling my PS2 and a few games, and if my games will play on the PS3 i will be more than happy to get it.

Yes the PS3 is worth getting. If you want to play these games, you'll have to have a PS3:

Killzone 2
Grand Theft Auto 4
Haze
Gran Turismo 5
Final Fantasy XIII
Metal Gear Solid 4
Metal Gear Online
Motorstorm 2
Tekken 6
Heavy Rain
Infamous
Socom Confrontation , and more.

And those are just some of the PS3 exclusives coming in 2008. If those games don't convince you to get a PS3, I don't know what will. Also God of War 3 is coming sometime in the future as well, but it will probably be out sometime in 2009.

If you want to get a PS3 that can play PS2 games, get the 60GB or 80GB PS3. But, the 60GB PS3 has better backward compatibility than the 80GB PS3, but the 80GB PS3 is able to play the majority of PS2 games, just not all of them. I know that the 60GB PS3 has been discontinued, but some stores may still carry them. The 40GB PS3 doesn't play PS2 games at all.

The most anticipated PS3 games are coming next year, so don't worry about the game situation because the PS3 will have plenty of games of 2008.

With new PS2s going for $130, and a rumored price drop in 2008 for the PS2 that will take it to $99, there really isn't much of a market for selling used PS2s anymore. Also, there really isn't much of a market for used PS2 games either. There's just too many of them really.

Honestly, I'd hold onto my PS2. There are still plenty of good games for it and by the time you do buy a PS3, there's no guarantee that it'll play PS2 games at all. The 40GB PS3 already doesn't do this, and it's pretty safe to assume that this will become the standard model in the future.

As for buying a PS3, or any game console, it's important to focus on the games that are available right now. Upcoming games can look really neat, but all too often the actual product falls short of the developer's hype and advertising. Worse still, games are often delayed, or even canceled. The PS3, for instance, has seen a good 3 or 4 of its biggest titles get delayed into the spring of 2008.

Since there's only 1 game you're interested in right now, and maybe another one that hasn't been released yet, it wouldn't make sense to me to buy a PS3 right now. I'd really wait until spring of next year. By that time, there will be other games available which will hopefully give you a better idea if it's a good buy or not. Also, I strongly suspect that Sony will drop the price on the PS3 around that time as well.

if you get an 80 GB PS3 you can still play your PS2 games. and if you're lucky enough to get your hands on the now discontinued 60 GB PS3, that will work too. actually best. that version is actually better for backward compatibility because it uses its hardware to play PS2 and PSone games.
the 40 GB PS3 may be cheaper but you don't have backward compatibiltity with it, so your PS2 games would be useless. you should get a PS3 though. you'll be very satisfied with it and there are plenty more than the two games you want to get for it. there are many games that will make it worth the price along with its other features.
