You can connect with people from other cultures. I think when you're learning a language and you practice, people try and help you and are genuinely flattered. I'm a Socio-Cultural Anthropologist and Linguist headed to law school and I can say my ability to solve problems and use logic is due solely to the fact that I speak five languages.

When you learn a foreign language, you learn more than just how to speak to people in another country. You learn about their culture and their philosophies, their world view.

I believe it is the fastest way of improving your IQ. Learning a new way of communicating is not just not learning new words, it is learning how a language is put together called grammar.

I like that it makes it possible for me to get to know people with whom I otherwise couldn't communicate. I have more access to other cultures and people.
