Because if evolved animals can't play nice then they won't survive to continue evolving socially or physically.
The answer above me makes a good point, albeit inaccurate. Many animals in the animal kingdom rape each other (forced sexual encounters) and steal food from each other and kill each other sometimes for no apparent reason. The difference is, we have evolved beyond simple animal behaviors into a more advanced social society.
"Who decides the standard for what is right and what is wrong"?
Well, you take a group of people and experiment with a little thing called 'society'.Naturally, in order for a society to get along, certain standards must be made in order to maintain the society.Otherwise, the society would fail.It is in human nature to want to maintain a society. We, as animals, have a social instinct. That is why we have evolved into having a social order of right and wrong to maintain said society. This shouldn't be that hard to grasp without just chalking everything up to a supernatural deity.

Atheists have morals, the concept they don't is ... absurd. The Golden Rule is a reliable position to commence, "take care of others as you want to be treated". With this philosophy, you're an lively participant in a society, you do not forget that the options you're making impression others and that how society evolves is an instant effect of your movements. Theists basically undertake some historic code written by ability of goat herders ~1800 years in the past. One wide-spread topic for theists is to communicate about how immoral immediately's society is, yet they fail to do not forget that ~ninety% of the inhabitants is theist... perchance in the adventure that all of them took a better lively function in making judgements about their morals and the outcomes they have the international can be a better efficient position.

Because unlike all the other animals on this planet, we have awareness of the moral and ethical consequences of our actions. In other words, we have a sense of right and wrong, and can CHOOSE either. Other animals can not.
EDIT: We humans decide what is right and wrong for ourselves. The point is we always have the CHOICE. Between stimulus and response, man always has the power to choose how he reacts. This is the key feature that distinguishes us from the other animals on Earth. Other animals simply react. Sometimes they are conditioned by other members in a group to react in certain ways, but most of the time, they are at the mercy of their instincts. A human can feel compelled beyond all reason and rationality to act a certain way, and still choose otherwise. For example, an animal caught in a trap will attempt to escape at all costs. It is beyond reasoning at this point. Instinct has taken over. Put a human being in the same situation, and he might stay still, feign death to lure the hunter close enough that he may kill him, and thus remove a threat to his kind.

You seem to equate animals with no morals however even in the animal world (say a pack of wolves) there are rules that members of the pack live by. It is no different about human animals. We live by a set of rules that our society has established to be acceptable and non acceptable.

We do not need a silly religion to dictate right from wrong.
Intelligence and higher thinking abilities are what sets us apart from the other creatures on this world.
I fail to see how atheism has anything to do with any of this.
This question seems like nothing more than an attention whore needing just that... attention...
Please go troll elsewhere.

you christian huh... if you know the truth why did your religion deny the earth was round... deny gravity as a law of nature ... why are you denying evolution as a law.... you try and turn things around... murder rape, theft are very christian things...not until the human conscience EVOLVE and understanding of right and wrong came along did the church have to evolve to fit into the laws put into place by human conscience.... laws like equal rights, end to discrimination, women's rights, children's rights, racial rights, gay rights all these are contrary to church practices.... often the church's oppinion of good and evil are contrary to the truth of right and wrong.... christians are less than animals... they are liars...

Social standards require that we act within certain limits. This is reflected in other animal societies (primates, most cat species, dogs, even insects), in which abberant behaviour is punished.
Really, your argument is baseless.

Do you ever see chimps murdering, raping, and stealing things from each other? No, because even they realize that you're an idiot for even suggesting that being godless means we have no morals.

We've more evolved than the other animals. Able to think comprehensively, able to build structures, machines, tools, etc. We should also be more evolved in our actions...

I want to know why a lot of atheists are vegetarians. If we're all animals and other animals eat each other...what's the problem?
