i got word from a friend of mine today that at his school the very same school i graduated from has a extremist christian youth group and the members of this group are now acting like brain washed zombies who only do the things the youth minister (also a student at the school) says are ok to do they stop talking to freinds, they stop going out with boyfriend/girlfriends, stop going to the movies, tells them how to dress, how to talk, who to be with, what books they can/can't read(some of which were class manditory readings for liturature classes/"not sure on this 1 just what was said"/) they only eat what he says is ok, tells them were they cannot go or be seen at, tells were they can and cant eat at,so on and so forth, because he deems them "not christian enough"
THIS MUST BE STOPPED IT ISNT RIGHT

Is this a public school? If so, religion has no place there. Have him talk to the principal immediately, or go yourself as a concerned friend, about taking action against them since they have no right whatsoever to dictate any of those things, especially since at least a couple that are listed are detrimental to the education there (refusing to read required material for class, etc). Also, inform the parents so they can work at getting it stopped as well, if they even care.
I have no tolerance for people like that. He has quite the balls to be deciding what is "Christian enough" for people he isn't even responsible for. I don't care that he is their supposed leader. He needs to be removed from that position and that group asap, if not expelled entirely.

You have control, as the majority. However, this country was founded on the principle that government power is Constitutionally limited. That means that just because the majority is the majority doesn't give them the right to have their representatives enact laws that infringe on the fundamental liberties of the individual. This has come to mean that a public school, being an arm of the government, can't infringe on the fundamental liberty of freedom of religion (both establishment and free exercise). If what you mean is that the Christian majority can impose the Christian religion on individuals attending a public school then I would say that the majority should NOT have that power. Not only should the majority not have that power because of the basic freedom of religion issue, but also because it is inherently unfair and scary. It's unfair, because you would impose, obviously, one particular version of Christianity (Catholic? Baptist? Methodist? Lutheran? Mormon?) on everybody, requiring my Lutheran kid to be subjected to Hail Mary's and penance, or your Catholic kid would be subjected to some Baptist's idea that only the "elect" make it to heaven and predestination trumps free will. Do you really want that? And, it's scary because we'd have a bunch of public school teachers trying to fulfill requirements of religious prayer and instruction. It's been a while since I attended high school, and I know there are a lot of good teachers out there, but frankly a lot of teachers are not the sharpest knives in the drawer, having graduated with C averages from Slippery Rock Teachers College and Keggery...... and you want them responsible for souls as well as minds? Think about it chief..... sometimes the adage "be careful what you wish for" is very appropriate.....

Belief is a very good thing. It's bad when people try to adopt it as something that they control, though. Christians are supposed to follow the bible, not someones weird set of rules. The ten commandments should control a Christians life, not some tabloid written by Joe Shmo.

You said it yourself, it's a youth group doing this, not a school.
My stepdaughter attends a public high school in which it is against school policy to wear clothing with Christian symbols on it, against school policy to hang up Christmas decorations, and yet it is perfectly legit to have two girls making out in the hallway and children are encouraged to have "cuddle parties" at break time.
So who's running that school?

I think this classifies as a cult...
It also makes me wonder, are the kids' parents approving of this? If enough parents are worried or angry at this kind of behavior, they should take it to the school board.

What DON'T Christians want to control?
This is one reason why people must remain vigilant lest their rights be slowly (or in the case of the Bush administration, rapidly) eroded.
