You can do it if you're physically capable (e.g., no thyroid/bone/whatever problems) and you put your mind to it. When I started PTing I failed every PFT for months, but eventually made it and even became quite athletic. I went to school on an AF base and many of us (dependents) are joining up...I'm always hearing about some fat (and sometimes stupid) slob getting through BMT, so now that I'm prepping for it, I refuse to let myself fail, because it would just be too embarrassing since I know so many people dumber and more out of shape than me who graduated.
For everyone insulting Air Force, just keep in mind that the AF currently receives more applicants than it has slots. Recruiters are not hard pressed to fill positions. Army, on the other hand, will take anyone with a pulse. Jarheads have the most strenuous requirements, but just bear in mind you can't be the strongest AND the smartest. In the Air Force you are a PROFESSIONAL FIRST, airman second. In the Army (and I believe MC) you are a soldier first. So if you're strong but maybe lacking in mental facilities, you should try either of those instead. We don't have as high physical requirements because, as posted above, we have a different mission, and we need intelligence to accommodate that mission.

The Air Force is really getting hard on fit testing and starting in 2008 administratively discharging those that can not pass their fit testing after being put into a remedial fit training program and under dietary counseling over a nine month period. That's for those that are already through basic. For those that are in basic it has always been a pass/fail situation and if you fail you will be out. Find out what the standard is for your age and start exercising now so that you can meet or exceed those standards. One of my additional duties was Fit Testing Program Monitor and for a younger adult male the push up requirement was in the high 40s, low 50s, sit ups was in the mid to high 50s and your run is less than 11 minutes probably and also their is a waist circumference measurement that they also take. Start working out now and watching what you eat and if you go into basic in better shape they will be able to get you there the rest of the way. If not-then you may not make it. Your recruiter can give you the current standards based on your age. Good luck!

Ignore the insults about the Air Force, they are from people with low ASVAB scores who only qualify to carry things and drool.
The best way to pass the USAF PT test is to set the Army PT test as your goal. Start slow then work into it. Increase your sit ups, and push ups weekly. Stretch, stretch, stretch. And then, stretch some more.
The physical requirements of USAF Basic are not as high as the Army or USMC, they have different mission requirements.

When you run, do you run like a rabbit at the start? If you do this, you're wearing yourself out early, using all your strength.
Try pacing yourself, then pour it on at the end.I could do a mile in 6 minutes.
Ever watch a horse race. the winner is usually in the rar until the lastlap, then he pours it on.
try it that way and see what happens.

You can do it, but you better start exercising now. They are going to make you do some many push ups and sit ups it will blow your mind. Try doing flutter kicks and diamond push ups too, i remember doing those all the time in basic.

true the air force doesnt have the pt requirements of the USMC. but i think they do require you to be able to read and write, unlike the USMC.
get to work running right away, it'll help you out all around with losing weight ect, and it will be required your entire af career to be able to run well. i dont know what the basic requirement for push-ups sit-ups is anymore, but in my day it was like 45 push ups and 55 sit ups in two minutes. but the new pt test doesnt put that many points to strength training. most of your points will come from a low run time and small waist.
oh, and i think they'll put you on the fat boy flight in basic training if you cant pass the pt test. i dont know all the details, but i think instead of doing anything else, you just work out all day and they test you like once a week until you can pass. i think there's like a 1month limit for being in that flight before they kick you out. but stay out of it, because the weeks you spend in there doesnt count towards your actual training, you'll come out of the fat boy flight in zero week again.

You should, my 6 year old cousin could pass chair force boot camp. The best way to improve on all of your calistenics is to do them daily. When I got out of the Marine Corps I was running 5k in 17 min 10 seconds, thirty six pullups and 172 sit ups in two minutes (company Iron man). It all came from hard work and dedication. So go right now and start banging it out!

Use lead weights on your ankles, wrists and waist! Keep pushing it further and faster each time! Eventually you will remove the weights and it seem like your running on air!

For the Air Force? I think they take you if you have a pulse. However, you might chose to NOT embarrass yourself & attempt to get in better shape prior to leaving.
Hey BOB P...
Nice how you mention reading & writing. Did you bother to proof read your answer? I guess proper grammar isn't your strong point. Oh and you might want to review your lesson on capitalizing also.
