Well, I know that it's not normal. But I don't know if it's a disorder or not. She jumps up and sometimes screams when I just tap her on the shoulder. She gets scared easily by any loud noise. She even cried once when I scared her from behind. She's 14 and I know that this is not normal.

Well... this is a difficult one. I guess you wearing a bell is out of the question. ^_^

Why not do some adventuring? Taking a little risk might make her less jumpy. Like roller coaster ride or rock climbing? Perhaps taking martial arts could boost her confidence and make her less scared (but don't tap her shoulder she might through you across the room on instinct).

Hope this helps. ^_^

Your friend could have suffered some trauma when she was younger and now suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ( PTSD) her jumpy reactions are a common symptom of PTSD called hyperarousal which manifests numerous ways one of them being someone who is very startled when someone surprises them. However she could also just be a jumpy and sensitive person. Knowing this about her I would find ways to make sure you don't approach her from behind and try to look out for her in highly stimulating situations. I am sure she will appreciate the extra effort you would be making to help her to feel more safe.

hmm.. has she had a past history of violence? I mean, has she been attacked by somebody earlier on in her life that she cannot forget about?

My friend was abused, raped and attacked by her mothers boyfriend when she was younger.. and then afterwards her mother ran off with this guy and never came back for her..

even to this day (Shes 19 now), she still has fear of many men, and sometimes she cant handle it when people talk about rape or about abuse.

OMG, I do the exacte same thing, you could be looking at me a say my name kinda loud and i will scream. I hate it, everyone thinks it hilarious. I have been like that as long as I can remeber. If its anything like what happens to me please dont scare her on purpose its hurts, like really hurts, hurts your chest, if bad enough makes your arms and feet go numb, so please dont do it to her. If its normal or if it is caused by something I have no idea. ummm.....I guess I sure would like to know.

Maybe she had a bad experiene that she hasnt told you about and that is why she is like this, maybe she is just an anxious person, I wouldnt worry too much, accept her if it doesnt bother her.
