I have 6 cats all rescued from cats protection league as kittens, 4 female and 2 male all neutered.

One of the male cats went missing, we registered him on every website for missing cats; looked at every type of website regarding animals including one called 'talking with animals'.

We walked for hours in the area calling his name; phoned all the local vets; put posters up in the streets and shop windows; letters through doors in a radius of 1/4mile this got us some good results; genuine telephone calls with sightings of a black cat like the one missing. Then on this Sunday 2nd Dec it resulted in our getting him back after 10 days when someone called saying they'd seen a cat up a tree for a few days.

He had been over 30ft up a tree for the whole time 6 houses up from our house and none of us had seen or heard him even though we'd walked past the tree so many times in our searching.

You could also contact an amazing woman called Linda like we did who was able to give us very accurate description of where we'd find him. She is the lady who runs the website mentioned 'talking with animals' all we had to do was send her a picture of him. Go to her website and have a look, if you want him back anything is worth a try.

Good luck and I'm sure that he'll be home; but please get him neutered it will stop him wondering quite so far looking for a good time!

Maybe. You really need to be pro-active.

Did you have a collar with your name and phone number on it? Did you micro-chip him? These two things are the best way to get your cat back.

Check with the animal shelter/pound every other day or so. Put flyers up at vet offices in the area. Put up flyers in the neighborhood. Offer a reward upon return. Put a lost ad in the paper. Walk the neighborhood and talk to neighbors.

Don't give up! Cats can take weeks to make there way back, or be turned into the pound.

A cat's normal territory is actually pretty small, usually five houses up and down the street, and behind your house and on the other side of the street.

If your cat is injured, he may hide to be safe. Call for him while you walk the neighborhood.

Of course, the best way to prevent this is to make your cats indoor only cats. I've finally done that with mine, and they adapt fine. And please get your cats spayed or neutered. They are less likely to roam and get into trouble that way.

If he is un neutered and not getting enough action (ie - the female is not currently on heat) he will go chasing tail, hopefully nothing has happened to him such as being picked up as a stray or a car...

When I first got my cat (though she was an adult neuter) she went missing for about 5 days and I wandered around our neighbour hood calling her, she eventually came home but I could only assume she got lost and picked up my smell and followed it home. It never happened again after that and she has always been careful even leaving the yard so maube thats what has happened to your boy.

All in all I would consider having your cat neuterd if he comes home, it means they go wandering much less.

Mine did the same thing I was nearly crying he is probably nearby... My cat went out the window one Saturday and he is an indoor cat too found him on the following Thursday around the corner with another cat. Probably thinking 'how the hell do I get home?' Put posters up I nearly did but he was found the same night..Good luck x

Cats have been known to return home MONTHS after being lost. My cat was gone for 2 weeks, in winter.

When he does come home, for Pete's sake -- GET HIM NEUTERED!!! It is totally, incomprehensibly irresponsible to let him out to breed more kittens, many of whom will be homeless. Go to a shelter sometimes, and SEE the harm it does to allow cats to breed!

PLEASE get ALL of your cats fixed. Honestly, you can't even call yourself an animal lover if you don't. Unless you are a BREEDER -- and if you are, what is your male doing wandering around outside? Did he escape?

Good luck, I hope he comes home.

Cats are adventurers and can go off for long periods of time.
my cat was gone for 3 months once and i had given up hope, until one morning i opened my backdoor and he just walked in like he was never gone,i was over the moon to see him.
If i was you i would put up posters with a picture of him on with your phone number asking if someone should see him would they give you a call.
Good luck!

As well as everything else people here have advised you to do, you should knock on your neighbours doors and ask them to check their garages, sheds, greenhouses, anywhere your cat may have got stuck - just in case!

it depends on your cat, but mine was gone for two weeks. we had just moved and it made it back to our old house 20 minutes away. cats are really smart, so dont give up hope just yet.

Call your local Police and council, they might have found him. Put some posters up round your area with a picture of him.
