Because I want to know that I am praying in the will of God I find it very helpful to use the Word of God in my praying. This is a prayer that I know God is pleased to hear. It comes from Colossians 1:9-14; I make the prayer personal by inserting my name or the person's name I'm praying this for. I change the words as if I was actually talking to the Lord face to face. The more you do it, the more real and personal it becomes. If you need me to be more specific you can e-mail me and I'll be more than glad to help.

Protestants do not have prayers they recite by rote. They believe that prayer is true communication with the Almighty. It is a genuine conversation with God in which one pours out praise and worship, requests and confession. These things change from one day to the next. It is not possible to have true communication by repeating the same thing over and over till you can do it without thinking. Though you need to have reverence and respect for God, you don't have to use the "thees and thous" Just speak from the heart. Hope this helps.

the Lords prayer is a model for praying, not a prayer that should be repeated over and over. Just talk and ask the Lord for what you need, Because He is your heavenly Father.

The bedtime prayer for kids,
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
If I should die before I wake
I pray the Lord my soul to take.

I just talk to God. Some call that prayer, but did you ever try to talk to Him? I could quote Psalm 8 to Him, but I bet that there were saints quoting it better than I can to Him. He's heard it before, though I still quote it to Him. But isn't it better just to walk and talk with God, severing the need for religious sanctimony?
Remember, Jesus talked about being friends with us believers. Why not trust Him for it? We can believe what He said!

Lord, help me not to be like those catholics, they worship mary, idols, saints and the pope.
*sighs*
EDIT: the Lord's Prayer is the perfect prayer. It should be repeated 24/7. the protestant who said otherwise is sorely mistaken to think any prayer he dreams up is better than the prayer that God taught us Himself

Sorry, dear one, no such thing as a "protestant prayer". All prayers to the Creator are just that - prayers.
God bless!
