Soon i will be heading off to a different state for a week to play in a national sporting competition. Our team is staying at a hotel where we will have the option of buying breafast each morning OR we can take our own breafasts like a box of cereal.

I'm trying to be heatlhy, and the only things we can order for breakfast dont seem too appealing for someone who will be playing sport all day. I'd really like fruit for breakfasts, but i can't really take a week's worth of fruit on the plane.

Do you have any suggestions on what i could take, ie any good canned fruit salads? Something easy to travel with, healthy, and suitable for someone playing alot of sport.

Thankyou

Does your room offer you a refrigerator? Most hotels/ motels will bring you one up if you have a special request. If you have an opportunity after one of your matches to hit a local grocery or health food store, then I'd load up on some staples, such as bananas, apples, oranges and fresh pears.
Have a supply of cheese stix and whole grain crackers on hand. You can make your own granola if you are so inclined and bring it or purchase when you get there. Most groceries or room service have hard boiled eggs. Or you can make them ahead of time and place them in your travel bag (doubled sealed of course) Then there's peanut butter and crackers, or Nutella and crackers. Get some celery and carrot stix for dipping. Packages of instant oatmeal might get you thru part of your day. Also, pick up some high soy protein bars in your favorite flavors. Cliff Bars are really good and really filling.

I play sports as well and I have this dilemma all of the time. I have found that dried fruits are the best to bring onto the plane. Another thing that you could pack along would be (and I know it sounds funny) vacuum packed muffins. I do it all the time :]

You can take some small yoghurts with fruit in the bottom. Even if you don't have a fridge in your room, they'll keep if you keep them cool. Other fruit things - fruit cups like for kids lunches, fruit bars like Fig Newtons (also come in Blueberry and a red fruit flavor), fruit roll-ups (aka fruit leather - pure dried fruit).

Good luck with your competition!!! =)

Fruit for breakfast isn't going to give you any protein or enough carbohydrates to compete. I would bring some protein bars -- they pack easily, and you can find something that's balanced between a mix of protein and carbs. You can also bring protein drinks, but I think the bars are better.
