your question really depends on the country your in and the mood you are in...
if your in a country wherein these types of habit is unacceptable because of their culture then you can say it ain't right and appropriate...but if you feels like it still..would you care if it is appropriate or not...
if your in a country where it is acceptable..then you can have the right to do it..just be careful at being alone in the bar means a comeon to guys..

Appropriate, no. Acceptable, depends. Some bars do not question a young woman's presence in a bar, even if she's alone. The only hazard is when male customers think of you as a "pick-up" girl.

I go, but I know the bartender who is a personal friend of mine outside of the bar. If you don't know the bartender well, don't drink too much until regulars at least recognize you. I've gone to plenty of bars by myself because I didn't want company-i.e.-I was pissy and I didn't want a pity party. Once you get to know people, you'll feel a bit safer because the people that are there five days a week are happy when ya sit a talk to em for a few, just to say hi. I'm usually shy and I really don't have a lot of confidence. I just fake it til I feel confident, and it works every time. If somebody wants to give you crap about it, f*ck em. They aren't you, and they aren't ever going to be. I'm 5'2", pretty damned short, but I know a lot of self defense my dad taught me so I could take care of myself. People quit messin with ya when they're twice your size and you can make em hit the floor in 2.1. If you're worried about goin out by yourself, learn some basic self defense moves. I could tell ya a few, just e-mail me if a wanna know, I've taken up enough space already. *Peace*

It's perfectly acceptable and appropriate, the problem is the unacceptable and inappropriate behaviour of men who think a woman alone in a bar is there for the taking.

I guess it depends on which country the bar is located in. I have several European friends who have said that they go to pubs (in Europe) solo and sometimes they have even met their significant others there. However my American friends say going to the bars solo means you are inviting trouble for yourself - I guess this has to do with the reputation that the common American bars and night-clubs have gained over the years...however if it is an upscale American bar, I guess it is ok.

It's acceptable, and if you buy the first drink, the bartender will keep giving you drinks for free after that. It's because they know that as long as a single woman is there, the guys will hang around and keep buying lots of drinks. However, watch your drink carefully, because if you're alone someone can slip a drug into it and you could end up getting hurt.

My ex would stay out late .. to show him I could do it too , I would go out to a bar a couple of times , I really was uncomfortable to be there .I learned fast that i was putting myself at risk trying to prove a point .Just know when you are there the men there think you are out to get laid.Beware .

Of course its acceptable and appropriate.
To suggest otherwise is frankly quite sexist. If people are so worried about appearances, perhaps they should stay home, where no one can see them.

I think it's acceptable of course, appropriate, mmm, for your sake, maybe no. I think it leaves you open to sexual harrasment from drunk men.

When a young woman does this it is a signal to the males that she wants to be picked up. If she is lonely and wants someone to talk to, why not? She had better be careful of the person she talks to.
