Before Common Era. Yes, the denominator is still there but it makes more sense in this time of globalism to have a world historical calendar.

BCE, you might notice, still has BC in it. It's a facade to appease the secular folk who disagree with counting the years by the birth of some guy who wasn't the son of god. A half-assed fake attempt at being unbiased.

Because most of the world doesn't consider Jesus to be of any great significance, but it would be convenient for us all to use the same calendar.

Not really... It's just easier to not change our dating system. It's always been a *****, with computers and everything it'd just be worse.
