i was thinking of soaking some sheets in different colored dyes, then doing the tie dye technique using bleach. so that the prints would be in color instead of white, i want most of the sheet to be white... do you get it?

would the bleach wreck the fabric? help!

Bleach will weaken a fabric yes... wreck it..... i dunno. Depends on how long you soak it and how much bleach you use. It doesn't take much.

So, you sort of want to achieve a reverse image of the tie dye we are used to seeing.... really interesting. Great creativity!
I bet you could sell a million of them if you put your mind to it.

It will look like little sunbursts of color on a white background....instead of being overwhelmed with color.... it will be a small treat amongst all the white.

Doing the colors of the sunset would be beautiful on a sky blue piece of fabric too.

Or........ to use your technique... but... instead of using colored dyes... just use black dye. The tyed places will be dark black fading into gray then into the starch bleach white. I bet it would be very interesting to look at... much like a black and white photograph.

Well, I am dating myself now. But, way back when in the 60's, we used to Tye dye t-shirts by pulling sections of the cloth out, then we would attach an elastic band onto the fabric very tightly. Tie as many sections as you want to dye. Once that was done, we would dip the sectioned pieces into the color dye that we wanted to use. We used to use "RIT" dye. I cannot remember how long we left it on though.

But, when we removed the elastic band, we would have the star-burst effect on the white fabric. So, you can try it with a t-shirt or a handkerchief or any white fabric to experiment. There is no need to use bleach.

I hope that this is the look that you are trying to achieve. I just did a search and found this link. It was very simple to do.

Not likely on a once only basis using a strong mix but washout fairly quickly ~~
