I've been trying to eat right and healthy, switching to organic products. but late last night I got hungry, is a turkey and swiss sandwich ok? it was on organic whole wheat bread.
I've heard of no carbs before bed. is this bad?

It's not the eating late that's bad, it's the food choices we have to be careful about. The only carbs that should be consumed at night are fibrous veggies. Carbs create insulin which will impede the production of GH at night. Night time produces the highest concentrations of GH, but having processed high GI carbs before bed will hinder this greatly. Additionally, the insulin response of muscle cells is reduced at night, basically shunting most carbs to fat storage. It's best to stick with primarily proteins and fats for late night foraging.

It's actually good to have something before bed as this reduces the catabolic effects of sleep and reduces the prolong fast resulting from long hours between meals.

What most people don't realize is that the metabolic rate actually increases for the first few hours of sleep, then steadily decreases as the night progresses. This is called the sleeping metabolic rate (SMR).

Eating late is bad but it's only bad if you go strait to sleep afterwords. If you don't go to sleep right away your body has a chance to burn up some of that sandwich. If you have only done this once or twice it's OK you won't gain weight but if you do it consistently that's a problem. Turkey and swiss is no big deal it's healthy stuff its not going to put 10 pounds on you, your fine.

no! that sounds perfectly fine. just dont load the sandwhich down with mayonaise. a little bit is okay, but if you need some sort of flavor use mustard or something less fatening.

but! try not to eat past, like 9 o'clock. all that food that you eat before you go to bed just sits and stores fat into your body all night, instead of working it off by doing normal activity like your other meals throughtout the day do.

ingesting something overdue at evening and not shifting around plenty afterwards can placed weight on you. it somewhat is why enormous breakfasts are reported, and nutrition with many energy eaten nicely in the previous bedtime.
