If so, why? Just because I saw it doesn't mean I believe in the metaphor behind the story. I see movies all the time with pre-marital sex in it(chick flicks like The Notebook, teen movies like Juno), but that doesn't mean I believe in or support that idea, does it? Nope. It's just entertainment. I found "The Golden Compass" entertaining. I don't think that's a sin. Any thoughts?

Seeing a movie, even if it is based on a book who's author's motivation to write the book is to "kill" God, does not make you a bad Catholic. Nothing can make you a bad Catholic, or a bad christian or muslim or whatever religion you practice. I myself am a Catholic and cant wait to see it.

Besides, remember, if you think it is a sin, which its not of course, all sins can be forgiven.

in my opinion, I even have never voted in an election on condition that transforming into a Christian. I do understand the seize 22 concern of voters regardless of the undeniable fact that. Do you vote for the devil you comprehend, or the devil you do no longer comprehend? maximum politics isn't in step with good judgment, yet emotions. Who ever stirs up the main advantageous emotions and avoids the unfavourable, frequently wins. From my attitude, that's a unfavourable thank you to run something, no longer to show a rustic with tens of millions of lives and households at stake. consequently I even have not voted. Or greater wisely, DID vote for the only that God appointed because of the fact the King of the earth, Jesus Christ. This replaced into the two logical and emotional. purely a proper person, with the education and help of the Ruler of the Universe might desire to get carry of that duty. (Logical factor) And the only that has promised the proper way of existence for the main of mankind (people who want him as their king) is the emotional factor. So my determination replaced into no longer between devils, yet for the only that has been appointed to defeat all the devils that have plagued mankind.

If you have young kids explain to the you can not kill God or what ever the movie conveys . Most of the movies are either Anti Christian , Anti God , Anti Christ , Anti Family you get the picture.
If people would get off their butts and talk the time to talk to there kids instead of letting them get there ideas of how to live and what to believe from mainstream T.V. and movies their children would have a strong foundation and movies like this would not shake them

ps its not the movie :its the smoking drinking and dancing that make you a bad catholic

No.

The Catholic Church says it is an okay movie.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' Office for Film and Broadcasting gave the film a rather warm review. It said, "The film is not blatantly anti-Catholic but a "generalized rejection of authoritarianism."

The review said Lyra and her allies' stand for free will in opposition to the coercive force of the "bad" Magisterium is "entirely in harmony with Catholic teaching."

Here is the entire review: http://www.catholicnews.com/data/movies/07mv242.htm

With love in Christ.

Steph, I also seen it too at the Sydney premier , enjoyed it just much as I did Narnia. I really don't know what all the silly fuss is truly about especially when they haven't even seen it yet.

No.
But if you have to wonder if something is a sin......????
My rule of thumb is, would I be comfortable saying/doing/watching something if Jesus were sitting right next to me.

If you feel ok with it, then it's ok. Don't let man put guilt upon you, but do be sensitive to the Spirit of God.
