started a new job but I'm still working in the same trade (i am a cabinet maker) the new company has different ways of doing things and different tools and machines, different terminology for things. i am very experienced in my trade but some of the workers there think that because i am not familiar with THERE way of doing things and need to have some things explained to me that i am some sort of idiot. they make comments frequently that suggest that i am incompetent. it makes me so mad because in fact i have more experience then anyone there. so far i have just tried to take there insults as gracefully as i can but i don't know if this is really what i should do. i dread going to work because i went from a situation where i was respected and people knew my abilities to one where my value is questioned by everyone, it doesn't feel good. whats the right thing to do? do i tell them flat out that they are completely out of line for there suggestive comments or do i leave it alone.

Jesus didn't answer back.

It's none of your business what they think of you. It is your business what you know is true about you. To thine ownself be true.

All you need do is a good job, soon enough they will see your talents. Actions speak louder than words.

Be patient and diligent. In time you will learn their system and your experience will show. No need to bow to their level to try and prove your worth. Those who attack and belittle are often doing so because of their own lack of confidence. Patronize them a bit and let them know you value their input. It will help disarm them. My guess is that they are insecure around you because you are new and want to show you how much they 'know' for their own security. So give them what they need let them know they are important, knowledgeable, etc. Jesus often looked beyond the offense to see the needs in peoples hearts.

If you are a carpenter and your name is "ole Jesus", then just continue to do what you do. Sooner or later some of your colleagues will find yet another use for a saw horse, but by then you'll be way ahead of them.

bite your tongue.
as time passes they will see how good you really are.
soon you will be instructing them on some things and
you will earn they're respect just as you did in your previous job.

I think that Jesus would stay silent and show them how much better he is than them.

well i guess it depends on how direct the insult is....

if they out right call you incompetant....i'd flat out say something

if they "imply"...you just gotta take it...
