I would use it mainly as a utility knife. I want it to be a folding blade that is durable that is less than 5 inches long. It can be either polymer or metal but if I am going to spend some money on it I want it to last.

I bought a Benchmade a few months ago, it's pretty tough. I got it for about $50, and it's been one of the better knives I've owned. It's a model 10300SB-BLK, and I'd buy it again for more if I had to.

There are quite a few good manufacturers of knives out there who have what you want at the price that you want. Two of my favorites are Cold Steel and Buck. Do not get a knife with a serrated blade because they are just too hard to sharpen and offer no advantage over a regular blade for your purposes. I have a couple that I bought several years ago and they now are in the bottom of a drawer and never used. My everyday knife is a Buck with a regular blade. I fortget the model name but it is about the size that you are asking about. It does everything I aske it to do and holds a nice edge. I also have a Cold Steel Master Hunter ( a fixed blade knife) and I think it is the finest hunting knife I have ever owned.

For an everyday carry knife, to use a lot, I just can't find anything better than multi-pliers. I have several different Gerber models and a few SOGs, I don't care much for leathermans, but they seem to have become a bit more comfortable in the past 10 years or so.

I carry a small pocketknife too, but the multipliers get used the most.

I second the Benchmade Griptilian. I have a model 551, you can find it on the net for $65 to $75.

I recomend the gerber gatorback.
It has a meaty, no slip grip, strong alloy steal that holds an edge wonderfuly, and not so expensive that you would keep from wanting to actualy use it.

Try a Benchmade Griptillian. I've seen them sold for anywhere from $65 to $100. I have one, and I absolutely love it.

I like my Smith & Wesson SWAT.

I got the straight edge though.
That will also save you at least 20 bucks and it is a durable knife.

Otherwise if you want top of the line....SOG Folders are awesome....

Check out the Brownings. Also take a look at eBay, it tends to have the best prices.
