I think there should be, let's say, two categories. One where they are registered for 10 years and are kept under close watch the rest of their lives. The second is for severe violations where the people are registered for the rest of their lives and are under extremely close watch. I think it is unfair to categorize people so broadly as not all of them deserve that.

He will have to be registered but there are different categories they are put into, at least here in Arkansas. The categories are kinda like threat levels; usually someone who has molested young children are high risk and those who have had consensual sex with a minor may be put at a minimal risk. None the less the young man was an adult by a year, and knew better than to be around a young girl sexually. Her consent is of no consequence because she is still too young to understand the seriousness of her actions where as an adult does know and chose to interact with the child. It is fair that he is classified as a sexual predator because he chose to take advantage or prey upon a young girl. What if this neighbor preyed upon your naive daughter who just wanted to feel special? Many young ladies want to feel good about themselves or want love and attention, what they end up with is humiliated, ashamed and hurt. Ok have to add this after the additional info...this is not about murderers who serve only ten years, that is what is wrong with society!!! Some of us are just learning to accept the actions of people when they screw up! That is why people are only getting ten years for murder! This behavior is point blank unacceptable and illegal! Criminals know they are wrong and don't care. I don't want any of these types of people becoming my neighborhood problem! So if you want to accept what he has done and pat him on the back that is fine but do not cry when your baby has been victimized because a murderer only got ten years, and his crime only murders a childrens innocence.

Seems likeThey all get set free anyway so does it really matter. They shouldnt even have the right to live in society any more. Offenders have changed the life of a child Forever no matter how bad you or I think they should or shouldnt be punished.
Well to the parents of that 14 year old I am sure its fair. If anyone touched my child, I wouldnt care how old they were. Put yourself in their shoes. Have you spoke to the 14 yr old? Hopefully no offenders harm your family.

this is not fair at all.
there is an extreme difference between a 19 and a 14 year old compared to a 60 and a 10 year old.
i think that there should not be one category for sex offenders. firstly, there are two different situations if the offender is mentally ill or not. secondly, like this situation, it should depend on the age extremity of the situation. and thirdly, it should consider whether there was consent from the 'victim'.
generalising those into the one category of 'sex offender' is unfair and naive.
i do admit that he made a stupid mistake, and should be punished, but not to that degree, the same punishment for paedophile rapists.
hope this helps

Ya, that is definitely statutory rape because it sounds like she consented. 14 year old girls are exactly that GIRLS. They are too easy to manipulate and take advantage of in that way, which is the reason that it is illegal.
To a 14 year old, even a 19 year old douchebag loser who can't get laid by women his own age seem cool. If he wanted to be with 14 year old girls he should have gone to a country where that kind of s#it is legal. He probably wouldn't get laid there though because in the countries where that is legal , 14 year old girls are way smarter than a lot of the dumb @ss girls I see here in the US.

you know, i believe all offenses should be put in their own categories; but thing is the world doesn't work like that. that's why parents need to be very careful in educating their kids. because the little_lest things could be blown outta proportion in the public eye. So yes I believe that sex offenders should be put in different categories. but it's not gonna happen just yet. probably not in the lifetime of this 19yr old. Sorry....

I don't think that's fair if the girl did it willingly.
The men that should be put on there for the rest of their lives, are the ones the have raped and molested little girls or boys.
As for people thinking she MUST had been taken advantage of (because of her age)...kids aren't so innocent these days.
It is not necessary for the guy to be put in prison.

Well, in the old days, one of three things would have happened to the 19 year old. A shotgun wedding. Horse whipped and beaten to a bloody pulp by the girl's daddy. Shot to death by other male kin.
There are consequences to stupid decisions. Some of them last a lifetime. Your neighbor screwed up big time.

One the sex offender list they have details of the crime, rape, child porn etc., so "yes" I think he should be on the list, but if you look at the list there are different groups of people and they are color coded....do a john walsh search.
