Can bride's cake be waived to send all bride's relatives and friends before wedding ceremony ?

Before chinese wedding ceremony, bride have to send wedding cake to her relatives and friends. Should modern couple waive this chinese traditional custom ?

Maybe it could be done with a modern twist. Send out cupcakes that are decorated, or cake shaped cookies, decorated like the real thing. I do not think that tradition needs to be done away with, but modifying it could be good.

The cupcake idea already suggested sounds perfect. It's important to keep some traditions, and a modern note to them just adds to the appreciation of those traditions.
