Absinthe will not make you hallucinate and it is not a drug. Soaking wormwood in anything will not make absinthe, and it won't make existing absinthe better, but it will taste bitter.
It does have a different effect than other alcohols. Some describe it as a more "clear-headed drunkenness." I've found that I don't feel drunk when I'm drinking absinthe, but I still have a headache the next day.
Recent tests on "pre-ban" absinthe that somehow hasn't been drunk before now has revealed that there wasn't much thujone (that's the banned component of wormwood that folks originally thought caused hallucinations--it turns out that it's more likely that such reactions were caused by nasty additives used to color inferior absinthe) in absinthe 100 years ago after all.
If you're really interested in the drink, I recommend checking out the wormwood society (www.wormwoodsociety.org) for more information about absinthe.

Unless you have been fortunate enough to get Eastern European absinthe, it feels pretty much like being drunk. The wormwood in proper absinthe has a somewhat hypnotic effect, you know, kinda like when you go downtown and watch the Budweiser clock go around for a couple of days,

I once took about 8 shots of something like 160 proof absinthe and saw a video of myself speaking in tongues. Later that night I ate an eighth of mushrooms and went for a real ride. Ahhhh college.

Absinthe is like mixing cocaine and mushrooms when your super drunk. You can make your own legit absinthe by buying Absinthe from a liquor store and ordering worm wood online( its actually a bush and depending on where you live you might even be able to find it) take a bundle of the twigs branches and oak them in the absinthe for like a few weeks. drink this **** carefully it can kill you but one or two shots to start then wait then one or two more and youll probably be trippin unless you got bunk wormwood.

I have only tried the Green Fairy brand absinth. It makes me feel more drunk than other spirits for the same amount of alcohol. It also gives me very faint closed eye visuals. Though it's possible all alcohol gives me mild CEVs. I'll have to compare the two some day.
