Curiosity killed the cat.

Inquisitiveness can lead one into dangerous situations.

Origin

Everyone knows that, despite its supposed nine lives, curiosity killed the cat. Well, not quite. The 'killed the cat' proverb originated as 'care killed the cat'. By 'care' the coiner of the expression meant 'worry/sorrow' rather than our more usual contemporary 'look after/provide for' meaning.

There is an old saying that "curiosity killed the cat". What was he referring to? Perhaps he meant not to ask too many questions because you may get an answer you don't like.

Curiosity killed the cat. The cliche means be careful poking into things you know nothing about. They just might hurt you.

it refers to the fact that cats are always sniffing around in places that are dangerous for them...for example, going after a bit of cheese that's been placed on a mousetrap, things of that nature. cats are noted as purely "sensual" creatures, having no concept of forethought or anything beyond the tips of their noses. it means you need to "zoom out" and look at the bigger picture, beyond the framework of the situation at hand...a guy is saying, "i love you. i want to make love to you." you're all "ga-ga" cuz some guy wants to get into your pants. you need to take a moment to think about the consequences of your actions before you react to the situation at hand. hope this helped you. blessed be.
