with the way THEY do things. i have been in this trade (cabinetry) for 12 years, i have more experience then anyone there except the owner and one other person but there tools and machines are different and the way they build and install there cabinets is different then they way i have always done it so i have to become familiar with these new processes. this to me seems perfectly normal but for some reason some people there insist on treating me like i am an idiot and constantly question my experience and ability as if they cant even comprehend that i might be unfamiliar with certain things. i am so frustrated by this and its so offensive to me but i don't really know how to addr4ess it. i don't even want to work there at this point on account of the lack of respect people show me. should i just be completely blunt with them and tell them there out of line for there comments or is it a better show of strength and maturity to just let it go.

i have no doubt that once i get through this initial awkward stage where i have to become oriented fully with this company and I'm in my "element" so to say , my competency will reveal itself, there was a reason why i was hired, i have a good reputation with my previous employer and i am a really smart and good guy. i feel like i ought to just sort of take the beating for now and in the end it will pay off but do you think that would be detrimental to me instead? just don't know what stance to take.

I'm in a similar situation. I just switched bank regions, but still work for the same bank. I still know all the processes, but some of the ways they get to the finish line are completely different from what I have done in the past. Both ways are right, they are just different. I'm actually the manager, so it's been really tough for me to ask my employees how things are...and it makes me look not as smart as I really am.

Enough about me, this is about you. You really have to show that you are totally comfortable with who you are and know that you have the talent. It sounds like you know what you're doing, and that's not the issue. Anytime they make a comment, just laugh it off and throw an equal comment or less back at them to show that you are just as fun loving as they are...but showing you can hold your own. Don't be confrontational about this, as it can make you look like a jerk.

I would roll with the punches and always tell them how you have done it in the past, but you want to know how they do it. By telling them how you have always done it, will prove to them that you have done the job before, but just for a different boss.

Don't let them keep you down. You have the talent. Show it off. Good luck!

you shouldn't have to put up with being bullied or victimised in any work environment.

i had something similar recently with a voluntary position i took on and ended up just leaving the position because there was no real loss to me involved apart from the experience - you have a little more at stake than me though so i don't know if i could recommend that. honestly though, i would probably look around for a different job somewhere else and stay where i am in the meantime. your workmates just sound like immature idiots :(. good luck working out what to do.

Perhaps the best thing is to say that you've never done a certain thing their way and you'd like to learn; but I think it's a good idea to share with them the way you did the same thing. It's really a chance for everyone to learn something from each other. Of course, there will always be people who are just ignorant and prefer to remain that way.

Other people don't matter. If it's a good job, and you need it, keep it. If the others there are wrong then their opinions are irrelevant and you can and should ignore them.
