It could be true, but there is nothing mystical about it. When the body dies, it enters rigor mortis and all of the gases are expelled and the blood starts to gel. These processes and others change the appearance of the body. It's not pretty like it is on TV.

No it's not true. Neither do your fingerprints. By the way...your hair does NOT continue to grow and neither do your fingernails. Once you're dead everything stops and stops growing.
