You have to go through US Customs. You have to ensure the vehicle meets US Safety Requirement (Canadian & US vehicles while looking the same, are not the same underneath).

If the car was not built to US safety and emission standards - you may not be able to register the car in the US. Before you purchase the car - follow up and make sure you can register the car here.

ITS BEST IF YOU CONTACT YOUR LOCAL (DMV) DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES OFFICE, THEY WILL BE ABLE TO ANSWER ANY AND ALL OF YOUR QUESTIONS AND AT THE SAME TIME YOU WILL BE GETTING THE CORRECT ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION.
