I don't think that Sony would come out with a improved PS3, I mean, what else can Sony do with the console right now? The PS3 has nearly everything you need built in so I can't even think of any way that another version of the PS3 could be better.
In terms of pricing, I think that sometime next year Sony will drop the price on the 40GB PS3 by $50-100 dollars. This may sound stupid, but it was a smart move that Sony made by removing the backward compatibility with PS2 games on the 40GB PS3 because Sony can produce the 40GB model a lot cheaper, and Sony can drop the price on it pretty easily. And once the 40GB PS3's price drops, the PS3 will skyrocket in sales even more.
As far as the PS4 goes, I really hope that it has V.R. (virtual reality) technology used in it. I don't know how far away V.R. is in gaming, but I think that it's a pretty long road before it's ever used. The PS3 is going to be the console that pushes the limit in terms of graphics in games, so with the PS4 I want to see a new form of gameplay with the PS4.

In response to some fairly bogus claims by an "analyst" last week, Sony has come out of the woodwork to state that yes, it is indeed planning to build a PlayStation 4, but not until at least 2010. Therefore, by taking this quote completely out of context, we have deduced that there's a mere three year wait for some next-next-gen goodness, which can be easily tide over by FFXII, GTA and SotC. However, were we to actually do our job, we would let you know that in the interim Sony is planning on firmware upgrades for the PS3 to expand media center capability, allow third party applications, and to support third party controllers similar to that of the Wii. "To say that there will be no PS4 because of a management change is a bit far fetched," says Paul Holman. He also went on to mention the possibility of a keyboard and mouse bundle with the PS3, predict at least 20 new games for the European PS3 launch, and to tout that schmancy Cell processor under the hood. We're standing by for a PR cleanup crew any moment now.
I CANT WAIT-hope they release on time-

Since there is an system update every so often there really is no need for a new system ever. There may be a PS4 someday like in 2015 or something with voice activated controls and you being in the game moving around like you can go into a tv screen or something and become the character. Just a thought :]

They could atleast stop using the name Playstation. PS1, PS2, PS3, and maybe PS4. It's getting boring. Atleast Nintendo comes up with different names like: the Nintendo 64 to Game Cube and to the Wii. And Microsoft didn't name their second console the Xbox 2. They did something creative, they went with 360 instead. Something that Sony never does.
