Would anyone actually expect non-Christian friends to go specially hand pick an individual card for them that said "Christmas" instead of one from the boxed set they bought that said "holiday" as not to offend the recipient...

I doubt that many people are "afraid" to use cards that say Christmas... I tend to pick the ones I buy more by what they look like and if the wording is nice, not by what the wording is. However, if it says "holiday" and is more wintry than Christmas looking, then I can use them for all friends...which in these times is a plus in saving some cash.

They have a great set at Sam's. It's only $14. They have a pretty blue Yule tree and snow on the front. Inside it says "Warmest wishes this Holiday season."

Why would any non-Christian buy a Christmas card?
Only Jews would buy Hannukah cards for other Jews.
Maybe a business which doesn't know their religion,
would send Happy Holiday or Seasons Greetings cards.

in case you elect to get an precise theory of ways lots of human beings obtainable are possibly to get indignant, seek for "yule" in the questions right here. There are fairly some people who respond to questions approximately yule with "that's no longer a actual trip," etc. additionally, there have been some questions approximately right here some days in the past some controversy in Olean, long island. city corridor (innovations you, city corridor, no longer between the interior sight church homes) positioned a nativity scene on city assets. A Wiccan woman complained and became into advised by using the mayor that she ought to place a Pentagram up in honor of yule. The mayor pronounced every person else ought to place the different non secular image up that they felt like - a menorah, etc. somebody in a black truck backed over the Pentagram and that they are thinking prosecuting it as a hate crime in the event that they ever seize the guy. i'm going to work out if i will locate the question one poster asked, the place he in fact pronounced, "became into it incorrect to have the nativity up, or became into it incorrect for the Wiccan to start up worry after the subject became into in fact closed?" If i will locate it i'm going to place up it for you. I delight in the character of this question very lots, by using the way. yet as you will discover you're no longer probably getting an precise reaction. people who do get indignant are not going to confess it outright. )O(

What bothers be about these types of cards is that people use them because they are so afraid that they will offend someone. I say "merry Chrsitmas" to people because I honestly wish them a merry Christmas. If someone wishes me a "Happy Hannikah" I would not be offended.
I guess the question should be, why are people offended by receiving such a card?

No, they don't offend me because the sender is thinking of you and sending good thoughts - religious sentiment or not.
We buy "non-religious" cards for everyone but my minister cousin and family. We'll get a religious one because we do wish them love and happiness in their religion and respect them.

No. Doesn't offend me.
A "Happy Hanukkah" or "Happy Solstice" card wouldn't offend me, either.
I think that we all need to remember that its not about the words, but about the spirit in which they are delivered.

they don't offend me at all! I typically give out ones that say those types of things as well because my friends are of so many differing religions (or not religious at all!) and I hate to offend.

I wouldn't be offended, but why are card printers and the purchasers of such so scared to buy a card that says Christmas?
"Happy Holidays" cards are dumb. What holiday do they think you're celebrating?? Halloween? And what other "season" do you mail out greeting cards?? Happy Summer?
The season is Christmas and the holiday is Christmas. The reason you are off of work is not b/c its winter, its b/c its the celebrated birthday of Christ.
If you disagree, give back your holiday bonus.
